How to accept the actions of the Old Testament God
by confusedandalone inhow are we able to do this.. this is not an attempt to stir the pot or cause confusion but i was sitting here thinking of all the really horrid things that the old testament god did to people.
when i was a jw i just purposely put it to the back of my mind always trying to make an excuse.
when i was in field service and someone would ask me about it i would just change the subject.. however i have been reading alot of info lately here about how wonderful jesus is and how he is a direct representation of what god the father would be.

MAJOR DOCTRINE CHANGE IN 1/15/2014 WT ON GENERATION TEACHING
by EndofMysteries inthe generation scripture no longer is speaking about 'the end'.
i'll quote it...... side note: tons of lies in this article, i'll point out at the end of the post.
"yet, jesus words at matthew 24:34 give us confidence that at least some of "this generation will by no means pass away" before seeing the start of the great tribulation.".

No longer are they saying "this generation" will be not die. They are saying this generation will not die before seeing the start of the great tribulation. That's a big difference.
16 All those in the second group included in “this generation” were not simply alive but were anointed with holy spirit during the time that some members of the first group were still alive on earth. So not every anointed person today is included in “this generation” whom Jesus spoke about. Today, those in the second group are getting older. Yet, Jesus’ words at Matthew 24:34 make us confident that at least some of “this generation will by no means pass away” before seeing the start of the great tribulation. This convinces us even more that soon the King of God’s Kingdom will destroy the wicked and bring in a righteous new world.—2 Peter 3:13.
Maybe the reason why they changed the overlapping generations doctrine to the overlapping annointed doctrine was to distract people from noticing the end of this sentence: "This generation will be no means pass away before seeing the START of the great tribulation." I certainly missed what that implies. Now compare that sentence to the timeline on Page 4/5 of the July 2013 Watchtower. The timeline has the "last days" aka now as a short little 1 1/2 inch gray section. The Great tribulation -starting with the UN attacking Christendom is about 8 inches long before Armageddon. Sooooo . . . quite subtly the Society has brought itself time.
I believe this big push of JW.ORG is control information. Eventually we won't have even the CD-ROM anymore. All information will be on the website, thus allowing the society to even more easily control access to past publications.

I'm sorry this talk of the governing body calling itself "mother" is completely new to me. Can someone point me to the threads discussing where this came from.

The Great Crowd and 144K explained
by Crazyguy ini was talking to the person who posts on this site www.wernerbiblecommentary.org and we were talking about his understanding of the great crowd and the 144k (his whole article is on the site).
anyway if you look at rev 5:10 these look to be the same as the great-crowd, being from the nations etc.
and are dead.

They don't use "about" in any of the other dates listed. It leads me to assume "about" as "around" or "approximately."

Traveling snitches and the tentacles of Rutherford's takeover
by Terry inin the 50's, 60's, 70's, when i was an active jw, the traveling overseers both district and circuit,(before elder arrangement) came around to visit local congregations.. two points to be made about this.
when pastor russell died, rutherford wanted federal control of the varied congregations for himself.
under russell, all the groups were independent and unencumbered by an organization.

When you say pension, do you mean they receive money every month or annually, even after they are no longer working as a circuit or district overseer? A sort of retirement? Is it dependent on how long they worked as a CO or DO? Do you know how much it is?

Was it two elders? I think it's a good safety practice to not allow two men into your home when your husband isn't there, even if you know them. It's a little disrespectful toward your husband for them to do that. Then again I'm a very cautious person.

I wonder...
by braincleaned ini wonder about why so many of us stick to the "truth" within the frame of the jehovah's witness religion.. of course, the wts has authority over our minds thru the control of information, demonizing any "worldly" knowledge that might jeopardize our faith in this entity.. thru my own experience, i understand how we can stick to this organization; because of a life's investment in serving, and the close ties of family and peers we do not wish to abandon or upset.
so we are here on sites like these, to understand the mechanisms of the cult... to try to make sense of why we should stay, or why we should leave.. the consequences are too important to take this lightly, or too swiftly.. if i may share a bit of my journey, i did not have to worry too much about the cult at first, because my main battle was based deeper than that.
after all, the root of any christian religion is in the bible itself; faith in jehovah and christ; trust in the idea that the bible is inspired by god himself.. so yes, my quest went to the base, the root of the jw faith... the bible.. since childhood, the character of jehovah was a problem for me.

Thank you braincleaned. This is my first post but I wanted to thank you for expressing something that I have always felt since I was a child. One of the things I have enjoyed from "lurking" around this site is the varying religious viewpoints of it's members. It seems some believe still very closely to what has been taught by the Watchtower society and some are on the other end of the spectrum and believe in no higher being at all. I respect each one's feelings. You happened to bring up some issues that I have buried deep in my heart about the atrocities documented or fictitiously written (I haven't decided which yet) in the Old Testament. I too have a hard time understanding the "justice" of certain events. I have told myself that certainly my definition of justice and morality has been shaped by the time and world I live in today. Those terms may have had a completely different meaning years ago and that may be why I don't understand actions in the Old Testament. Regardless, you brought validity to the questions I have within myself. I have recently questioned in many things. Obviously, that is why I am here. My journey has just begun and as my name suggests, this shall be a very slow process for me.
