there's a great example of how ignorant jws are in the november 8th awake (oil: will it ever run out).. on the letters page: (the writer is from the ukraine, so i *hope* something's been lost in the translation... but why would they print it if it was?).

i was ready larcs thread talking about the way it used to be.. started to think, as time has gone by, with all the changes the organization has made, are the witnesses less sincere today than they were perhaps 40 years ago?.

i was two when my mom got baptized, so all i knew growing up was the watchtower.

i remember some of the 70's, and all of the 80's.

I'm watching my "loyal" relatives quietly change - possibly without their even being aware of it.

Metatron said the above, and it reminded me of a dinner recently at the home of a MS and his former pioneer wife, now the mother of a baby boy; these are 3rd generation JWs from "pillar" families. Other dinner guests included two elders. The couple talked openly about the recent gift from the boy's grandfather (an elder in the congo). The gift? The grandparents opened a college fund and the kids are planning to contribute to it on a regular basis. This was mentioned openly and without apology; no one seemed surprised.

Michael said many are expressing that not ALL non JWs will be destroyed at A. Two witness women visited their JW parents recently and were talking about changes taking place in the org. At some point the father said the teaching that all non-witnesses, 99.9% of the world population, would soon be destroyed would probably have to undergo some new light. The reaction? "What? We don't teach that!" Assured that "we" do teach that, they were both incredulous. One said, "Well, I never teach that to anyone when I go door to door." They acted like they never heard of such a doctrine. Both are raised in the "truth" and currently active, and one's a former pioneer.

"JWs are big winkers," said Minimus, in a terrific line worth copying. "Mother buys me birthday presents," says Soledad.

All true. It is amazing how many JWs "observe" birthdays these days. They acknowledge them verbally, go out to dinner, skate around it as close as possible. One parent buys birthday cards for her grown kids, sends them after crossing out the "happy birthday" message printed inside, and includes a note that says, "I thought this was pretty funny, except for the birthday part. Thinking of you. Have a great day!" How close is that? Then there was the "devout" JW family who took the family patriarch out to an expensive restaurant the day he turned 80. They were, they said, celebrating his "anniversary," NOT his birthday. That said, they all went and had a terrific time.

It's just further proof that many JWs are beginning to"vote" on various doctrines and beliefs by a form of passive opposition.

Well, considering the WTS used to teach that black folks would be turned into white folks in the new system, I suppose a gender swap would be possible as well. Ah, what a world we (will) live in!

* The Annual General Meeting 2003 *

ok, no one seemed to notice, but the annual general meeting came and went around october 4th i think.. did anyone go, know anyone that went, or know what may have been discussed?.

apparently, there are a limited number of tickets issued.

part of the meeting is a business meeting.

There has been a good response to the visitation program for inactive ones done by the elders this past spring. In the USA alone 15,000 were reactivated

If that's true, our congregation didn't hold up its end and neither did any other congos I know of... and I know a lot of them. This must be about the 15-minute "adjustment" that allows older, infirm inactive ones to count time anyway so they can, in turn, be counted by the WTS as publishers, thus swelling the ranks without any growth.

Received letter from wtbs re Vicki Boer

i got 2 replies to my letters this morning.

one was from my local mp saying he had passed my letter to another minister and the foreign and commonwealth office are investigating to see if its an appropriate issue to raise, and the other was from the wbts of britain.

the letter reads as below, and i would appreciate your comments on it, and some good qoutes to include in a reply.. .

What should be clearly noted is :
1) The WTS are not denying that Vicki Boer's case was valid.
2) They accept that they lost the case
3) They accept that they used the full measure of the Law to make sure that Vicki Boer emerged from this case financially ruined.

We should all file this away for further use.

Could Disfellowshipping Finish Off the Watchtower?

let's do some speculative thinking about the watchtower's future!.

suppose some holes are legally poked thru the watchtower's actions on disfellowshipping,.

whether in the us or other countries.

I have thought for a long time that the real Achilles' heel for the WTS was in the area of DF'd children who got baptized at 10 or 11 and then entered puberty and started bouncing off the walls emotionally and made some "mistake" for which a JC is formed. An immature teenager might not possess the social skills at that point to maneuver his or her way through the JC hearing and next thing you know: DF'd. The subsequent shunning by family and friends could be construed as emotional abuse. There must be many of these minor children. It just takes one court case.
