the letter the un posted on their site regarding the wt affiliation with the un is great news!

kudos to everyone who made this possible by taking the time to write the un!

although most on jwd see this as a big victory, most have expressed that there will probably be many active jw's who will find it suspicious or will turn a blind eye.

Gumby - You are right! I don't know that there will ever be a mass exodus from the WT. There are simply too many that don't want to open their eyes and will believe any bull the WT espouses. But the rebuttals I've heard so far, IMHO, are great for people to use on individual friends/family members. But thanks for the reality check - I definitely need to be reminded from time to time!!!

jgnat - I LOVE your response to "stunned silence"!

AD - Anytime I hear the word "tricked" I instantly think of Satan. Hmmmm.... could it be that the F&DS is actually him?!

Elsewhere - Excellent point and easy to remember, too!

SYN - There is certainly no denying the WT's support of the UN when they have actually printed pro-UN propaganda that can be readily accessed! ('Tis just a little problem they are going to need to overcome!)

Bad News Today

my mom's nursing home called today to tell me that the doctor recommended that she go on hospice care.

they said she has entered the last stage of alzheimer's and is not taking in nutrients, just liquids.

i'm going there tomorrow morning to fill out the necessary release forms.

Here are some other objections I stole from the original thread started by jgnat. If anyone else can think of objections and/or responses, please list them!

Objection: Jehovah is USING the United Nations to prove his sovereignty.

Objection: They MUST have been tricked into joining in order to get into the library or in order to get literature into countries where they are taxed such as France.

Objection: ... this [is an] example of theocratic warfare.

Objection: Oh well if they didn't make it up, some apostates must be working for the UN against us.

Objection: They must have become an NGO for a good reason.

Objection: We should not question ... god's wife like organization, lets just leave it in [Jehovah's] hands.

Objection: Maybe ... a UN-Watchtower alliance as a good thing, despite the official policy.

Objection: Maybe by supporting the agenda of the UN they were bringing Armageddon just that much closer.

Awesome awesome work everyone! SYN and Valis and jgnat (and anyone else I may have missed) thanks for taking the time to make this accessible to people! This is the best news I've seen in a looooooong time!!!

BTW - I've been thinking about the different objections active JW's may have to all this - as well as whatever BS the WT will tell the R&F - and thought it would be a good idea if we all stuck our heads together and figured out our own version of "Reasoning From The Scriptures" for overcoming their objections. I don't want to hijack this thread, so I have started a thread on this and hope anyone who has any ideas will give their input. I, for one, know that my JW mom will put up her "JW veil". I would love suggestions on how to pierce it! Here is the thread:

Although most on JWD see this as a big victory, most have expressed that there will probably be many active JW's who will find it suspicious or will turn a blind eye. Since many of us will be sharing this letter with our loved ones who are still in the borg, we are bound to come across obejctions. I thought it would be a good idea for all of us to stick our heads together and come up with our own version of "Reasoning From the Scriptures," whereby we think of any objection an active JW may have, and come up with various suggestions on how to overcome those objections. I know that it would be helpful for me to see some ideas, and I thought others could benefit as well.

Here is my .02:

Objection: Apostates hacked into the UN website and posted it.

Possible Response: You can bet The Society knows about this letter. There is no way The Society would stand for this being made public if it were not true. If this were bogus, they certainly would have contacted the UN by now and it would have been removed. Just to be sure, you may want to check the site again in a week or so to see if it is still there. If it is, then you will know that it was not placed there by hackers.

How can I find the Watchtower on the UN website?

i have the website www.un.org/dpi/ngosection/watchtower.pdf.

but when i go on www.un.org, i can't figure out how to get to the watchtower.

i don't see any links to the dpi/ngo section.

..or you can explain you found it like I did. I was curious about what the UN was saying about the Watchtower Society, so I did a google search on the UN site. My search criteria were Watchtower site:un.org.
By the way, I have found interesting documents on the abuses faithful JW?s suffer around the world on the UN site. Try doing a google search Jehovah or Jehovah?s site:un.org.
And DUSTY! I suggest we show our GRATITUDE to the UN by pointing our friends and neighbors to this link, INSTEAD of sending in more letters to the UN. Let?s not make the UN sorry they helped us out.

ladylee: why would a doctor put someone with anxiety on lithium?

no other symptoms just anxiety, guilt (dub stuff ya know) no suicidal thoughts, no depression per se???

I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV (!), but I know lithium is an extremely "serious" medicine. IMHO, it should be used as a last resort after other medications have failed. I would defininitely encourage her to get a second opinion and a different prescription. On the other hand, if I were the doctor, I would prescribe her to get out of the WT and her abusive relationship. That ought to fix the whole problem right there. Of course, I know that the odds of that happening are slim to nothing, but she is not doing herself any favors by keeping with the status quo. It's like stepping on a nail that stays lodged in your foot. You can have a tetnus shot, take anti-biotics and pain medication and live your life on crutches, which would make the situation a bit more tolerable. However, the entire problem could be eliminated if the nail were simply removed. *wishful thinking*!

Hope she can find something that makes her life easier.
