Thanks, Hillary!
I appreciate the info on McCabe. It still boggles my mind that someone who had to have enough education to become a lawyer could be a JW. It just goes to show that some people are born with blinders on. Go figure.

please help me understand something about wts lawyers.. are they hired by the wts, or are the lawyers expected to volunteer?
this question was not answered to my satisfaction on an earlier thread, because i know that most dubs weren't going to college for the longest time, and then how many of them would go on to law school?
how many of these would be crackerjack lawyers?
Thanks, Hillary!

ok matty and i are having a disagreement (we'll tell you who likes what later after we get some input)... .
when you eat a standard sandwich (made with flat white/wheat square bread with lunchmeat) which is a given: .
1. that butter would be spread on the bread unlesss otherwise requested.
Parkaaaaaaaay.
most witnesses believe satan and his demons are looking at them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
were you one of those?
how did you handle stories of demons, witchcraft, etc.??
Hi LL!
OMG! Up until the very last line of your post, I thought you were putting on a joke like the one about the old lady who thought this guy was her long-lost son, and he kept trying to get away from her and she wouldn't let him, so when he finally did get away, she started chasing him and when she caught up to him she got ahold of his leg and started pulling on it just like you were pulling ours!
But you weren't.
What a scary story! I believe that demons exist, I've just never talked to anyone who has a story like that! I'm telling you, if my step-mom's entry-hall table had taken off like your bed did - without me on top of it - it would be curtain time for me. Come view me in my casket. How did you function after that? I would have been a total basket case! (no pun intended!)
I'm sorry you had to go through that! Scary!

IMHO - the $142k is probably all on paper. Do you know if they had to provide paycheck stubs, etc. as proof?
How do you think the non-JW lawyers are compensated? How many lawyers would want to work pro bono on their stuff?
Do you know if James McCabe is a JW or just regular Joe Citizen who happens to work WT cases?

i have been lurking here for quite a while and have decided to officially introduce myself.
i am still an active jw but i am in a holding pattern of sorts right now because of many of the things i have read on this form.
they truely have been eye openers.
Welcome aboard, Pillsbury!
It's terrific you have decided to join in. You will never look at the "troof" the same way again!

all it takes is a two - thirds vote to establish a policy, rule, doctrine, specific date etc.therefore one - third of the governing body disagrees with the other two - thirds.how is this compatible with the belief that the holy spirit is leading the gb.. one example of this is the split when discussing 1914.one-third of the gb wanted 1957 to be the beginning of the last days and the beginning of the time of christ's parousias.two-thirds wanted 1914 to be the date.. how could the holy spirit be confused as to when these things would take place?.
this is just one example where there is no unanimity in the gb.do you know of any other specific examples of things one - third of the governing body do not believe?
millions of lives depend on them for direction to gain everlasting - life.. blueblades
I agree that this is not in keeping with the Holy Spirit, but it doesn't necessary mean that one-third of the GB does not agree with all doctrine - only that UP to one third can disagree with any particular doctrine. At any rate, I wouldn't know of any examples of this, but would anyone know how to find out? It could 'splain a few things I'm looking at.

my son dominic graduated friday from advanced infantry training at fort benning, ga. needless to say, i'm a very proud mom.
he has been selected to join the honor guard (or old guard) and will be stationed at fort myer, va...but we get to have him home for a few weeks.
here are a few pics of his graduation.
Congratulations to Think and son!
I have no doubt that the training was especially rigorous, and that your son must be quite accomplished in order to be placed on the Honor Guard! You have every right to fluff your feathers and strut!
Cheers!

Thank you for the compliment! However, I must say, a person doing this can only be as good as the information that's available. Another major factor is knowing how things work in the borg, and since I was never a baptized witness, I could be staring at something huge right in the face and not know it. I've had a couple of people volunteer to help, so hopefully we'll all be able to sort this thing out. You may or may not realize it, but what may seem like small pieces of information you have posted on this thread have actually been quite helpful. It's all a big puzzle, and a matter of putting it all together where we can see the "picture"! *groan*!
Anyway, I hope you keep checking back and posting with your thoughts and insight! It will be interesting to see where this goes!
