Great info! I actually came across this a few months ago, and found it interesting as well! I did a little checking on it, and although I came up with something different than you, one thing I did find out, (which I thought was interesting), was how amicus curiae briefs filed at the Supreme Court level work. I only share this because I think understanding how this works underscores the significance of the exact nature of the relationship between the WTBTS and these "friends" of theirs!
What I found out is that an amicus curiae (aka: "Friend of the Court" or "Friend of Either Party to the case") brief can not even be filed at the Supreme Court level without the express permission of the party on whose behalf they are filing AND The Supreme Court itself. Second of all, it is my understanding that when a petitioner allows a third party to file an amicus curiae brief on their behalf, they do so knowing that they are required to give up some of their argument time in front of the court to the third-party filer. This may not sound significant, but when a case is argued at The Supreme Court level, each side is only allowed 2 hours to present their case! When you look at the number of amicus curiae briefs that were filed on behalf of the WTBTS, and take into consideration the amount of precious time the WT had to give up for their "acquaintances", I think it speaks volumes as to just how "friendly" they are with these other religions and frightening groups! There is no doubt about it in my mind -- this was definitely a group effort amongst "friends"! Hmmm... smells an awful lot like the U.N. scandal to me..... what do you think?!!!

I can't say that I feel guilty for having it as good as I do, and I don't think that qualifies me as not being of "good character". I will say that I feel badly for those who do NOT have it as good as I do, but I have enough guilt in my life just from my limited JW exposure to last a lifetime without carrying the burden of being born in a country where I could make something of my life if I worked hard. However, I DO contribute every chance I get - also at the local level - although I have given money through my church to help build an AIDS hospital in Africa, too. But, because we are in the 38% tax bracket, plus the 8% tax bracket on the State level, I already give 46% of my income away. I think I am already giving more than my fair share, and I think I have a right to bitch about $2.00 gas - especially after I just wrote a check four times as big as most here on the board - and knowing that that money is going to people who choose to allow me (not by my choice) to support them while they sit on their asses for the rest of their lives and have no incentive to do otherwise because they are HAPPY with their meager lifestyle - as long as it means that THEY don't have to work.
There! I feel much better now!

Suicidal Thoughts
by Obviously Secret insorry to put such a crappy subject on here but today and like this whole week has been pretty bad.. right when i went to the 5th grade i started getting i was already in the suicidal mood of things and always thought about killing myself or killing a whole bunch of other people.
all during elementary school kids picked on me since i had a habbit of crawling into corners and crying or just sitting and rocking in those corners.
i couldn't talk to anybody, i stuttered and i threw up every time a person talks to me for too long that pushed away alot of people they always talked about me throwing up all the time and everything.

My heart is crying for you. I am so so so sorry that you are feeling this way. Being in chat with you, I would NEVER have guessed you felt this way to the degree you do. It just seems that there is so much to say to you, but when something touches me deep, it is hard for me to bring words to the surface. All I can say is that I think you are very special - you have struck me as very mature for your age, and very bright, too. Not to mention that great sense of humor of yours! Geez! You sure know how to crack me up!! There is a part of me that feels as if you need a fresh start - that the problems you suffered from as a child are following you everywhere, and that perhaps you need to start over where you are not already "labeled". Is there another school nearby you can transfer to? I also agree with posters who recommend finding a good therapist and an even better anti-depressant. There is so much hope in both of those. I know JW's think of therapists as "tools of Satan", but you need to get to one - FAST. Can you talk to a school counsellor about these things? They are on your side! My other suggestion is to tell you about the ills of Ritalin. It completely changed my son's personality, and actually caused depression in him. We have switched him to a new drug called "Strattera" which helps ADHD, but does not have the stimulant effect of Ritalin. I have seen such a difference in him! This could be a help for you, too. Please talk to your doctor about these things.
In the meantime, I am going to pm you my number. I want you to call me - collect if you have to - if you need some support. You are a worthy individual, and you have a friend in me.
