I remember when I first stumbled upon an apostate site. It was nerve wrecking, scary, and exciting. The more I read, the deeper I feel into the author's smooth talk-at least that's what I thought it was. He had me, but at the instant he answered that famous question most doubters ask "If not here, then where?", he lost me. BORN AGAIN CHRISTAIN? I begin to roll my eyes at this point and symbolically kicked myself in the rear end for going there in the first place. This prompted me to Watchtower Research in order to build my faith and dismiss the apostate trickery from my thoughts. Once again I was in my safe bubble and would remain there for another 2 years.

Why some will never leave the org.
by JH inwe all had the same teachings when we joined the jw's.
we all studied the same books and magazines and all came to the same conclusion that this had to be god's organization.
we were told how god would establish a new world where we would all be healthy and eternal.

I like to ask JW's wahy they serve Jehovah and the num,ber one answer is .... "I want to live forever on a paradise earth." Hmmm, I thought it was because he is God and worthy of our worship!
I agree that most JW's serve God for the prize. However, I would have to say the same thing for all other religions. Do you think there would be as many Baptists, Catholics, Muslims, Buddhists, etc. if they didn't think they would be going to heaven, reincarnated, or some other promise of an afterlife. Think of all the cults that have come and gone. There's always a light at the end of the tunnel. Name one religion where people worship simply out of love for their higher power, with no reward.

Next New Light??? Heaven's Doors Closed in 1935
by Elsewhere inthe persistent passage of time has forced the borg to literally redefine the word "generation" to suit their needs (it now means any group of people within a span of time that can go on indefinitely).
i'm starting to get the impression that they are going to have to do something with the 8000 or so people who insist on partaking of the emblems every year, thereby identifying themselves as "anointed" and heaven bound.
in recent years they have tried to discourage people from partaking by emphasizing that they could be crazy or diluted or puffed up with pride if they partook (don't ya just love my jw speak!?!?

Just another way to keep the "annointed class" exclusive to whites from the United States, England or Austrailia. I mean really, how many from Latin America or Africa got their calling pre-1935?
Precisely. If the calling was from God they would have gotten it, but it wasn't. The Watchtower gave the call. So you had to have already been a believer to hear the accouncement of two classes. The so-called "good news" hadn't reached the ends of the earth. This is what makes that "special feeling" claim so bogus. They should have known before the change in doctrine or did God wait until 1935 before giving them the "special feeling"? I would love to see them explain this one. -

Will the Watchtower answer truthfully?
by Ariell ini told my mother about the un scandal.
of course she knew nothing about it.
me: mom, it's on the official website.

I told my mother about the UN Scandal. Of course she knew nothing about it.
Me: Mom, it's on the official website. Their name is listed in the directory.
Her: Anyone could have put that there. (an apostate of course)
Me: It doesn't work that way.
Her: The UN could have lied.
Me: The Watchtower officially said they did it for a library card. I can show you a scanned copy.
Her: Anyone could have forged that letter.
Me: I can show it to you on an official news site.
Her: I won't believe it until I hear it from the horses mouth.
So here I am, trying to figure out how to get it from the horse's mouth. Will the society be willing to admit to a mere questioner they were a member just for a library card? Would it be better to email or snail mail?

There is an elder in our congregation whose very persistent, haughty, and controlling. You know the type. He has a grudge against my family. If I were to attempt a slow fade, he'd be on me like butter on rice, trying to find ways to disfellowship me, and we all know a determined elder doesn't need justifiable means to disfellowship. That's why I'd rather be done with it and move on. Life is too short to deal with their crap.

After careful consideration of all your replies I'm leaning more towards walking away, but still uncertain about what I'll actually end up doing. My Dad has been inactive for quite some time now-attends meetings every blue moon. He's already told two elders that he doesn't believe God appoints them as the society teaches. They even tried labeling him an apostate, but it blew over. I know for a fact he wouldn't shun me and I'm pretty sure my Mom wouldn't either (it will definitely cause some degree of tension at first, but that's something I can live with). As a matter of fact, no one in our congregation has shunned their DF'd or DA'd relative. They socialize as if nothing has changed. I guess local tradition does indeed play a part in obeying Watchtower rules.

I confessed to my Mom two days ago that I'm no longer a believer. She took it pretty well, better than I thought she would. Of course she now thinks I'm being influenced by Satan. I'm trying to prevent going to the extreme (dissociation), but considering what I'll go through if I don't-constant inquiries from the elders and those in the congregation, which I'm sure will eventually lead to me being disfellowshipped-it seems like the best option. It'll be at least another year before I'm prepared to leave home. I'm thinking I should get my family use to the idea of me being dissociated, instead of hitting them with it right before I leave. Any suggestions?

We'll praise them for a job well done, but it's a job that YOU can't do.
by Ariell indid it ever bother you when the watchtower published magazines praising doctors, nurses, policeman, etc., but yet discouraged witnesses from having these jobs either because they took up too much time or because they involved violence.
i'm talking front page-cover stories here.
of course they did it to draw outsiders in, but the hypocrisy of these people, it baffles me sometimes.

They discourage people from having jobs that can involve violence? I've never heard of this, and never had anything said to me about my job. A lot of people were interested in it, and gave me more respect when they found out what it was.
I'm refering to jobs that require you to fire a gun if necessary. Witnesses aren't allowed to be polices. I've known some to lose their priveledges because of it.

I mean seriously, what if all policemen and doctors became JW's and couldn't save lives. We'd really be screwed up then wouldn't we? Oh! I forgot. They'd all get a ressurection so it really doesn't matter. That's if a JW hasn't knocked on that door and warned them. Afterall, those who don't take to the message deserve to die. Sigh
