let me start out by saying that i would like nothing better than to see the society totally disappear one day and lose its controlling grip upon its members.
this forum is probably one of the most frequented sites for doubting jws and lurkers so i think it is important to be as skilled at combating the witnesses as is possible.
not every argument made against someone or something is a good one.

ravyn, tks for posting the link for your story. i just read it and am horrified (not shocked) at your experiences. i'm happy you have everything written down and, i hope, well distributed. you are not the only one who has done this. Just knowing there are people like you out there makes me feel stronger in my resolve to do the same. i share your reason for waiting for publication.

For me, it's just a personal thing. For the first time, people actually celebrate the fact that i'm here (birthday). My chosen family (friends) taught me this - in fact, they practically rammed it down my throat. "you are special, dammit!", said they. And xmas/solstice is a special time set aside to honour bonds of friendship when we all have extra time off to do so. This includes my pagan, christian and atheist/agnostic friends. That's why i love these two celebrations so much.

Cheers to you minimus. Mrs. minimus, it was v hard for me to leave JW as I was raised in it and left all behind including my family. I even prayed to Jeh**** and said I have to leave for my own sanity, forgive me if I'm wrong. But i have been very much happier as a free person and after a while realized that my perception of reality was very skewed as a JW. Use your logic, don't let fear rule! 'the truth will set you free'

It took me a long time to stop being judgmental and hypercritical of others, but think i've pretty much got rid of that. It still rears its ugly head once in a while, though, and I have to stop and have a chat with myself at those times.
Being a 'good girl' and seeking approval - that's been a big one. We all know that 'he' even knows when we commit sin, even in our thoughts. It has been difficult to erase feelings of guilt and shame for doing things that regular (ie, 'worldly') folks wouldn't think twice about, even though I've been one for many years now. When will it end?
Hmmmm ... I guess they're both the same thing, just one is outer-directed and the other inner.
