IS Science Absolute Truth

if we have faith in science and scientific claims about the universe, origins of life etc.

is that absolute truth.

if so then if they declare that god exists with evidence then do all those who believe in science then believe in god or a creator.

PURE science is absolutely truthful.

There is corruption in the world, so some scientific studies are slanted to benefit corporations or other agendas. Think, TOBACCO, and all the lies that scientists told.

That is a speciic incident, though, which involves a billion dollar industry, and scientists who were corrupt. Don't let that influence your opinion of true science.

HOWEVER, when the scientific community researches something ,,,,,,,, years of study and trials, and not hiding the evidence, then science can be trusted.

For decades, scientists have proved the Biblical account wrong. There is no doubt. There is no corporation that beneifts from this knowledge. So, yes, the science about the origins of life is real.

We have casinos here in Eastern Canada, Jam, and in other parts of Canada, that are owned by bands. Some of the abuses mentioned are NOT happening 'today' ... it's 2014, not 1964.

Also, another point to clear up (surprised you don't know this, Marmot) , is that NO, First Nations people are not pre-disposed to alcohol abuse. That is a fallacy.

No, this is not true. There are certain tax benefits and monies you may not receive, but you do not reliquinsh all your rights. How do I know this? My cousin is Mi'kmaq and my close friend is just now doing the paperwork to get his First Nations status, after establishing ancestry. His family is Beothuk.

Your arguments have less impact when you make broad statements that are incorrect. One in an earlier comment was about how much land is owned - 28,000 km2 yes, on reserves - other lands are not counted in this. Also, the % of the population is 2.5, not what you stated according to the 2006 Census.

Accuracy counts - otherwise, all argument loses its efficacy.

I Need Help Getting My Head Straight.......

one of the things i have been wresting with mentally is unraveling the "us vs. them" mentality that has been driven into my skull in the organization.. i am starting this thread seeking advice on how others have come to grip with this.. this is what i struggle with:.

i like the feeling/thought of being among people that live, or try to live, or at least know they ought to live by higher standards of conduct (maybe it is just what i'm used to...).

when you walk out of a convention of people dressed up, clean-cut, shaven, non-smoking, less-profanity-speaking, fairly orderly etc and see what greets you in the streets outside, it is a big contrast.. i am also still trying to understand how a religion that has conned people (so is morally wrong) could also be so well organized and have a lot of truly decent folks among their ranks.

The M-B test is pretty accurate imho, at determining personality 'types', though I'm not much on standardized testing of any kind.

My beef with this test is that it 'lost' me 3 jobs. I am not suited for sales because I am not pushy enough according to M-B. The only interviews where I didn't get the job were the ones where the company required taking the M-B test.

And the recruiters were NOT happy. The one guy had recruited me twice (London Life) because he didn't believe the test was right on the first go-round, and wanted me to try it again (yes, I'm good at sales), and the second was pissed off because his hands were tied (CIBC) - he said to apply for Administrative jobs and he would give me a glowing reference to his HR counterparts. Unfortunately, I don't have the letters to get me an administrative position that would equal my skill set.

Sorry, had to vent because I would be on easy street right now if I had gotten that bank job. :(

I'm not disagreeing that it's a good tool for personal insight.

Think of it this way. The WT is a corporation, and the GB are the Executive. The Executive answers to the Board of Directors. We do not know who is on the Board of Directors. That is the truth.

Whoever is at the very TOP (ie, Chairman of the Board and minions) is the Puppetmaster. Do you really think that they don't know the religion part is just a scam? It's a corporation - corporations care about one thing: MONEY. The religion is just a means to an end.

Not a slap, but a glimpse through a doorway into what is now a mysterious and formerly forbidden realm. It's not magical, and sometimes it can be ugly, but mostly it's just gloriously real.

Hugs are much better, and produce more results, than slaps.

Small steps, remember, will get you there! It's okay to feel however you feel. You are embarking on a new adventure, one that will never end. It's called LIFE!

The thought/feeling that JWS have 'higher standards' is an illusion. The Emperor has no clothes.

Some of the people i know in my city:

That 6 ft+ young guy walking down the street with the foot-long mohawk and wearing a dog collar? He volunteers at the Church up the street, serving up Sunday suppers to the homeless/poor.

The woman panhandlng in front of the coffee shop - no make-up, kinda scruffy looking - she has an MI, and her husband sends her out to pan every day - beats her if she doesn't. She has a smile that lights up the whole downtown when I give her a hug.

There's a 30-something man on the street corner, playing his guitar (awesomely) and belting out Bob Dylan tunes. He's wearing a 50s style cap, second hand clothes - he's a bit grimy and tired looking, but man can he play guitar! He works as a dishwasher to support himself, and plays on the street corner because it's just so hard to find a gig and as an artist, he needs to share his music.

Appearances are just that. I know, the JWS are very "shiny" - always fashionable, dressed nice, no cussing (in public) - but where is the reality? The pain and the glory, of a life that is LIVED.

It may be a bit scary to look 'out' from inside the b'Org, but trust me, the mosaic of folks you will meet in real life is far more interesting, and filled with amazing people, each with her/his own story.

here is my take (and i consider myself a pretty logical person able to set aside emotion...i've never been abuse but know people who have been).. the jury was completely right in awarding the judgement to conti.

There have been developments in Australia, because of a man named Steven Unthank, who pressed the government to make changes. There are threads about it here, and newspaper articles to be found by using a google search.

yes.. peterborough city center u.k. ''what does the bible really teach'' displayed on it.. a family of 3 i know were sitting on the bench just behind it.

i'm not going to say anything derogatory about them as they are nice folks even if they have to shun me now i bear no malice.. as predicted not a single person was paying any attention as they walked by.

i noticed some other canvassers (non religious), were actively approaching people and handing out leaflets.. on the market i saw the jw charity stall and again not a single soul was interested or even near it.. i'm glad this 'urgent never to be repeated work(tm)' is being vigorously carried out by god's chosen people.
