Michael Brown verdict discussion policy
by Simon init's likely that the grand jury verdict on the michael brown incident will be released in the coming days or weeks.. i've no doubt many people are going to feel strongly about things whatever the verdict is.. whatever the outcome though, here's what's not going to happen:.
we're not going to put up with inflamatory language and comments designed to rile others up.
be respectful.. we will not allow accusations of racism simply because some have a view of the verdict that contradicts others.. there will not be invented evidence or claims being repeated - if it's been falsely reported or debunked then it's off limits.. it's not going to be an opportunity for people to air past gripes over past discussions.. if you feel that you cannot discuss the subject in a rational way then it may be better to simply avoid any topics on the matter.. please try to be objective and respectful if you do decide to comment and not keen to take offense.

lol @ Simon! Haha, okay, true story. It was 1981, I was in my first year of marriage, in the burbs about 20 km outside the city. My ex-hubbie was a pothead, and hey, that was no big deal in the 70s and 80s. Just like the Breakfast Club, there were jocks, stoners, freaks, etc. He hung out with a variety of groups, and was well liked and hard working.
One of our friends was a big weed seller, and his father was the Big Cheese at the local RCMP detachment. The cops never bothered our friend "D", as his business was harmless. Once a year or so, though, they would drag him down to the detachment and hold him overnight for a medium to fair beating - just for being a rotten cop's kid.A friend of my parents', an elder, called the RCMP one night about a prowler. This was in the country - they showed up 1/2 hour later, and the officer was so drunk he had to hold onto the car door to remain standing.
In the past 10 years, at least 2 officers in my city were found guilty of coercing prostitutes into giving them oral sex in lieu of being arrested.
A google search will reveal how cops in Canada treat the mentally ill, but here there was at least one case. The local police arrested a man who was (a) known to be a person dealing with schizophrenia (b) known to be non violent, even when having a psychotic break. This was in the news. They threw him, head first, into the paddy wagon, and he died of head injuries. Another man died in the local jail recently - he also was known to have MI and other physical problems, and left in his cell instead of being retained in the hospital. There was a big inquiry about that one.
So, no Boss Hogg. :P We Canadians can get a bit smug sometimes. Yes, we have gun control (hooray!), and not as much 'death-by-cop', but hey, neither you nor I live in Toronto (shudders), Vancouver or Montreal, where the big-time players are operating. And as for our police, meh.
Lots of stuff goes on ....

Edit: I realize the term "paddy wagon" is not PC, and my apologies to anyone of Irish heritage who takes objection to the term.

if tomorrow dozens of jws learned of ttatt
by sowhatnow inand they left the congregations, would you then feel open to be thier friends?.
many on here have the same complaint, that in the jw congregations, there were clickes, no one had time for each other,.
people judged, there was a lack of association, freindship , true concern and love were lacking.

Just because someone learns TTATT does not automatically make them a likeable or better person. Hopefully it will expand thier horizons but sometimes they trade one prison for another.
So true. They are like "dry drunks" who no longer drink, but retain their former abusive behaviours. It's an important thing to keep in mind: people are people. Someone may also be an exJW and you can relate on certain unique issues, but that does not mean they will be a 'good friend' or that they have the same moral compass.

Well, now that you know the cause of the problems, you can work with your doctor to find your best options. Perhaps a referral to a OBGYN is in order. That would certainly be my choice. My GP has always sent me to a Gynecologist, because of my younger uterine cancer problem. It's good to get things checked by a specialist.
All the best!

Attracting young ones to the org
by Gratefullyunstuck innoticing a lot of posts and behaviours of the org that they seem to be trying to appeal to the younger generation.
im wondering if they are jumping on the back of a popular young clothing brand called jack wills.. a lot of their clothes have jw logo on them.

My first prediction: youth camps may follow.
I noticed that a lot of Xtian fundamentalist church groups have huge youth gatherings, sometimes in my city. Hundreds were here last summer for a week, from some church I never even heard of. I spoke with a couple of them downtown, and they just love it. All 'associating' with other 'Christian youth', blah, blah.
Anyhoo, could be the next step. They've tried home-schooling, and from what I've heard, that was an abysmal failure.

V, I just thought the comparison of Canadian police forces as "better" was laughable. I've known good cops, too, when in the pawn business and in my personal life - and the good ones, are great. In 35 years, though, I've seen too much of the other to be rah rah about any police force. That's life. :)

Canada must have a higher caliber of municipal law enforcement recruitment than we do here.
Hay-yull, no!
Two years at the community college and presto! You are hired by the local PD. lol, cops have the best pot, that's been the expression I've heard all my life. And yeah, the local bootlegger (Pearl) when I was a young'un, a nice old granny on a country road, used to pay off the local RCMP detachment in trade (booze).
Sheriffs require a certificate, my sibling is one. That alone, is a scary thought. He is a bully, and like pedos, they tend to go to professions where they can practice their victimization.

Jehovahs Witnesses costs/benefits analysis
by What is Truth? injehovahs witnesses costs/benefits analysis .
motivated by the 9/15/14 watchtower studied nov 16th.
i chose to take up their odd challenge, on paragraph 16 which is among many suggestions in this article that would bring up questions if followed through by any thinking person.. how do you feel about being a christian?

Cost: Living a life of deluded fantasy, not being permitted to make choices for one's self.
Benefit: Living a life of deluded fantasy, not being required to make choices/decisions for one's self.
It depends on what you want out of life. :)

i've been out for decades and believe i've been mostly de-cultabilized (if that's even a word).. my family is still in and i haven't had contact with them in years.
