gotta go to work soon.....but i've been mulling this one over and can't come to any logical conclusion(s) on my own, so i'm asking for yall's thoughts on the subject..... .
to begin with, from years ago, i've seen several persons talk about the probability of an illness or a possible catastrophe befalling them....only to seemingly "talk themselves into" being actually ill or the catastrophe actually befalling them.....i've also observed people, who are avid church-goers and bible readers, have "spiritual" experiences which actually validate their beliefs.....and i've read psychological info which proposes in so many words that things can occur in a person's life according to what they believe will occur.....that positive thoughts and actions attract positive outcomes and, likewise, negative thoughts and actions attract negative outcomes.....i have also had the experience from being in the borg and studying so much bible knowledge that it became too real and that what bible writers had written began to take affect in my own life for a while......but i also now see the obvious faults in what was written in the bible.....also, people who believe in buddha, voodoo or any other faith/practice seem to see the results come true for them as they are taught to believe the results will come...... .
so.....i'm wondering.....1. could it be probable that a person could contrive and believe and act on just about anything and see results according to what they have contrived to be true, acted on and believe?

Interesting questions, and I would say a qualified yes to all three. However, as with any philosophical dilemma, it would take many cups of tea and hours of lively discussion to really explore this.
So, I'm gonna wait a day, make myself a cuppa, and read the others' responses to this query whilst I make-believe we're all sitting in my LR.

I do not have a tape of this program, so cannot provide you with details, nor do I care to.
MY experience, as mentioned in the same paragraph you quoted, is that Muslims here in Canada are being persecuted. Did you read the part about the mosque being desecrated? Property was destroyed and there was racist graffiti.
The woman I saw on TV sounded reasonable and did relate personal experiences where she was 'shunned'.
As a DFd person, I understand that people do not have to throw acid in your face for you to feel vilified.
She was obviously sincere and I believed her. This is not court, it is an opinion forum. So you can take my word for it .... or not.
My opinion - you can have compassion for them ... or not. I don't care.

human nature being what it is, everyone stops to see the accident.
of course, by the time we get there, we are so pissed at the traffic, we slow down ourselves to make sure we see what all the fuss was about.. compare that perhaps to seeing the biggest accident of them all, bethel.
Been to Bethel & WT Farm as a teen. Even though I was a 'good little dub' as you say, I was bored out of my mind. There we were in NYC, and had to waste time on this, instead of MOMA.
The only thing I found interesting was the printing presses (for about 2 minutes).

I have lots I would like to say to the elders, but there's two problems.
1. It would get deleted by a moderator due to foul language.
2. They wouldn't really "hear" me. I would be like the human in the 'Far Side' cartoon who is talking to the dog. All the dog hears is "blah, blah, blah, FIDO, blah, blah, blah, FOOD, blah, blah, blah"

I don't have a bad odour story, but...
We always had the bookstudy in our home. One man used to pick his nose, then thoughtfully roll the booger between his fingers and flick it away.

the only thing I really miss is the dancing. There was a lot of dancing at parties. No one seems to do that unless at a bar, and then it's just a bunch of drunken college students, and they are more interested in grabbing booty rather than shakin' it.

since first coming out to family with doubts and subsequently the elders i have been labelled as apostate or on the path of apostasy.. i had never realized what a disgusting dirty word jw's make this into until it applied to me?
during meetings, comments from the publications even remarks from children and so on reflect the hatred the word carries with it to them.
i know a word is only as powerful as you make it but boy they have made the word apostate huge in the minds of all dubs.. yesterday when i got home my wife related her day with our child and how they spent it visiting another sister and her children.
