Waking up - introduction

i am a male, born into the jw cult(ure), baptized as a teen, now mid fifties.

most of my life i dreamed of hugging pandas and lions, punctuated at times by nightmares of armageddon or jw drama and politics.

still going through the motions for still-in wife.

I'm one of the '75 generation, too, though I left when I was younger. It must have been difficult to see things change so much. I know that when I left, I was extremely disillusioned and discouraged. Don't let it get you down. Keep on dreamin' .... : )

Farkel was awesome, and the best thing about him was absolutely no BS, ever. Loved him a lot. There's lots of folk here in the same situation as you, who can help you with this.

The story about Michael Jackson not even wanting anyone to acknowledge his birthday and wanting to celebrate Christmas--but it's okay because he had "Family Day"--makes me sad. As a non-JW, I've often wondered what a young child is told that well-wishes on his birthday as an adult would result in that emotional shutdown. All in the name of God

I agree. and maybe because I've been out of the JW since a teen. It's very sad, and whether we are Jane Ofice Cleaner, or Serena Williams, the effect is the same. xo tal

I don't think accepting the fact of evolution deserves a label.

Neither do I, but when a person takes every opportunity they can find, to assert their passionate crusade to make all creationists or believers in g-d, see THE TRUTH, that goes way beyond 'accepting the fact of evolution'.

Making derogatory comments about the idiocy of people of faith, and jeering and laughing at them, goes far beyond 'accepting the fact of evolution'. It is the essence of forcing your own conclusions on others, and belittling them because they have their own thoughts and feelings that are different from yours, that defines a bully.

A New Words With Friends Player Just Told Me That She Was a Jehovah's Witness And That's Why She's So Smart!

i saw she went under the handle of lovejahforever.....she said she is very smart and had cleaning jobs and was going in the ministry this morning.. when she told me she looked forward to beating me (she won the first game) she sid she was smart because she's a jehovah's witness.

my response was we will see how smart she is.. what next?

Sounds like a JW woman, who *is* really smart and has a sense of humor and competitive fun (you can tell, you're smart and playing WWF with her). It sounds like a friendship ... the JW bragging - are you two exchanging banter? I could see that. She sounds like a nice woman who needs friends.

I think your gut is right. An exJW elder is not 'who you are'. It's part of it, sure, but you are YOU, and have always been. Just enjoy the friendship ftm, and she may be a person who you reveal TTATT to, or not. Hope you are well, Minimus. xx tal

myelaine - for once, we agree. It took a couple of shots for me to look at this thread. Makes me sad, to see people having fun off of the death of a misguided soul.

TheOldHippie, I looked up the question. You are very correct. For a Jehovah's Witness, this would be confusing to answer. Great Crowd? no 144,000? yes ... which to chooose? It really shows that the PEW researchers have little understanding of JW doctrine. Once again, I need to doubt the efficacy of a PEW survey. It's disappointing. Thanks for pointing that out. (I didn't read the politics part of your comment.)

Haha, good story, and I can picture it. For years, I didn't even know that was Prince's song (Duh), but I was heavily into R&R and blues. Raspberry Beret is classic, and yup, very tame. And interesting, because I see it the same way. But I'm always 'putting my foot in it' and not realizing my double entendres until others start to smirk and tease me. Ah well, we all have our crosses to bear. JUST KIDDING!

Did they ever see the vid for Thieves in the Temple, with his ass-less chaps? Saw that on the big screen at the bar where my friend worked, and just about fell off my bar stool. *huge grin*

I was always into dancing (for fun at the clubs, and also jazz dance lessons and such), and Kiss was an excellent tune to dance - love his stop-gaps, which make for excellent drama in the dance as well as the music.

After he was dunked, I played "Kiss" for my dad, who loves to dance. He thought it was a great tune. I then explained it was Prince, and it was one of his tamer songs. He understood that I was going to miss the music, if Prince changed his style (which he did). It's sad that they 'got' him. Ah well.
