We went to a college football game tonight. I thoroughly enjoyed the singing of the national anthem. Stood up, without a 2nd thought that there should ever be a reason why I shouldnt. And thought back to all those times as a JW the nervous stomach I would experiece as anything patriotic was about to be done. My son stood up, all excited, and then I heard the father behind me tell his son to take his hat off, so I quickly followed suit and told my son to do the same, and then realized, I would have never known to tell him to do this, had I not heard the father behind me. What a dork. I wonder how many other things out there, are just givens, but we have no idea to do them, thanks to our upbringing. Anyone else out there ever feel like this?

Why I'll be out sharing the good news of the Kingdom with my Neighbors, of course, GAG!
(Remember when that is how we used to HAVE to spend our holidays?)
Taking the kids to Tombstone Arizona for a big event out there, will watch re-enactments of the shoot out at the OK corral, stuff like that. The kids are excited. Will satisfy my need for nature a little, as the drive will be nice.

Hot Saucing your children
by desib77 into me this seems cruel.
after my divorce i heard from a friend that my ex-husband's new wife was doing this to his son to stop him from telling lies.
i was very upset about it especially since he had learned to lie from his father.. i think it is mean, what do you think about it?.

Gosh, that is cruel! I would never do that king of thing, theres also a chance a kid could have an allergic reaction to this. ( I have allergic reactions to some ingredients in hot sauce)
I heard a story once of a child who died because the mother stuck a bar of soap in his mouth and started washing his mouth out with soap. Soap is not meant be injested, the poor boy had an allergic reaction, and died.
Cruel!

Hi there,
The holidays for me are all about watching my children, be able to participate in all those fun things I never go to do as a kid. It is just wonderful to watch. They have lots of cousins, (all age 6 and under) and for them to play with their cousins is so great. We had lots of cousins, but were always the misfits in the family because we didnt get to do the holidays. I dont really think too much about what the religious meaning is, whether or not there really is a Santa Claus, I just completely throw myself into the enjoyment of watching my kids have so much fun.
I do feel a little bit lonely around holidays, I crave my family since it is such a family time. So ther is just that very small part of me, that gets sad. But the good far out weighs the bad. I am actually to the point that I look forward to the holidays.
I say get into it, I think you'll have alot of fun, even if it is just by watching your children have fun.

Hi there, I can see how this upsets you, after all this is your mom were talking about. But really, I dont think you should send the letter. (although it can serve a purpose, good therapy for you when you wrote it) I think it was just cause more tension than what there already is, and it sounds like there is already alot of it. You can be there for your mother, as a shoulder to cry on, or a sounding board, thats a great thing to do to be supportive of your mother. I bet your mom doesnt want you to involve yourself either.
p.s something similar happened with my father and his sisters, and it was about the death of their parents and finances, stuff like that. Its just a very emotional time for all involved, I think people say and do things they later regret.
Good luck!

How do you handle JWs interacting with your children?
by Nosferatu inthis has been on my mind lately.
i'll probably end up having kids in the near future, and i would not want my mother preaching to my children.. so, i must ask, how do you handle your jw relatives who try to preach to your children?
how do you deal with a "gift" like my book of bs?
-
Netty
gift" like My Book of BS
And we all know what BS stands for.
Its pretty hard Nos, really. My mother does it all the time, and I just have to counter what she says, one thing at a time. I think that is the best way, incident by incident. Like she told my six year old (think he was 5 at the time) that they dont celebrate birthdays because God doesnt like it. So he was not upset, but very curious about why we did celebrate if God didnt like it. I told him, Grandma and Grandma are a different religion than we are, that is what their religion teaches, but that is not what we believe. Its ok to celebrate birthdays and have fun. he was ok with it. I have more stories like that one, I just have to handle them one incident at a time. I am not a point right now where I can truly tell my parents how I feel about the witnesses, so I cant ask them not to preach to my kids. Spoused though, can definately put a different spin on this. So far, I think out of respect for me, my husband has not asked her not to preach to our kids, but he definately gets very ticked off at her when she does it. Good luck with the future baby planning!

How True Are The Testimonies On This Board.?
by Paradise Found inits easy to belive what we read and accept as truth.when my wife came to the computer i left on the screen a post on what happend at bethel (not intentionally) ..she read it and said i dont belive it?
i would like to belive what i read on this board is 100 % true.
iam grateful for the truth on the u:n and more and more stuff that blows my mind away.and also personal stories that have had a profound effect on me.. sadly iam certain with-out doubt that the majority of exsperinences on this board are true because no matter how sincere a person is when you allow people to have a higher legal position in the land they live in than the law of the land they live in( no matter how bad or corrupt the society of the land we live in.

I think for the most part you can tell. As a former jw, i know all the buzz words, and have heard of plenty of different scenarios (being an elders daughter, WHAT confidentiality?). When I read peoples experiences, alot of times I am sitting there saying to myself "YUP, YUP, exactly". The stories ring so true and so close to home. It is hard to make up the very JW specific types of experiences we have all been through. So far, I havent read anything that made any alarms go off for me, but I do know that it could happen, it just hasnt so far.
