I need advice quick...and a hug.

i'm in a bit of a state at the moment, my wife has just left me about 30 mins ago and took the kids...i don't know where.... ok, some of you long-timers may remember the problems i had with my son ben, who decided that the jw religion wasn't for him about a year ago.

i supported him as best i could through that and he's developed into a fine young man with a more healthy spiritual attitude, investigationg a number of christian churches in the area and finally settled on church of england, which he really likes now.. although no longer a christian myself i have no objection to them pursuing whatever religious path they choose (obviously within reason).

that has been the case with all of my children: ben, 15, charlotte, 14 and chloe, 12. i have never attempted to stop my wife taking them to the meetings although i have voiced to them privately my concerns about the religion.

Dean I'm so sorry...Been there buddy and it hurts like hell.

You are my hero for the excellent stand you made, you took the high road and believe me the kids are aware of it. Sounds to me like your predicament is worse than mine.....I'm not sure what she could mean about taped conversations......It may sound scary but under certain circumstances the elders will back her for seperation or divorce on the grounds of spiritual endangerment...but you seem to be willing to let the kids go to the synagogue with her if they want.

I'll keep bumping you to the top buddy and maybe someone can offer better solice and encouragement than me.

Question: What keeps the Watchtower Society going?

hello folks, it's been awhile since i have posted, hope everyone is doing well!

i have a question, though, if the society is not paying the governing body, or other "big wigs" in ny large salaries, what would be the motivating factor for the society to continue to exist?

i am not saying that money is everything, but if none of the money is going into pockets, then the society must really feel that they are god's chosen channel, or something to that effect.

It makes me sick to know people are being fed soot...its probably the remains from that 500 tons of coal Jehovah bought for them in 1918.... It may be just a rumour but word has it that Rutherford would often place a lump of coal between his ass cheeks and produce low grade diamonds to help finance the world wide work that's where they got the saying Jehover helps your ass.

Minimus this is a serious discussion and should not be cheapened with Barbara Striesand lyrics...

JW 'urban legends'

i was thinking about some of the old jw urban legends that we grew up with and believed in as jws.

most of the ones i remember revolved around stories about demons, and jws being "attacked" when they would do something wrong.

some of these legends scared the crap outta me when i was little.

Was the Holy Spirit part of Jesus or a force controlled by God

the account where the woman with the blood flow touched jesus outer garment and was cured interests me.. jesus felt the power leave him and looked to see who touched him.

if the holy spirit was an active force seperate and controlled by god why would jesus have felt a power drain.. if you consider most of jesus healings to be a placebo which only healed people who believed like present day faith healers do this account sheds a different perspective.. if you believe jesus was god and all powerful it seems strange that he would notice the insignicant power needed to stop a flow of blood considering the awesome displays of power which never seemed to bother him(calming a storm, replacing a severed ear, raising the dead, feeding thousands with basically nothing..although my mom could do that too).

what are your thoughts...yes you too mr canon...not too long though...ok...remember kiss

i have just finished reading for the 2nd time "who wrote the bible" by friedman and american professor but first published in london.

he gives solid evidence that the pentateuch was written by 4 writers who are called j, e, p and d --- and so on -- traditionally of course written by moses.

my question is 2-fold .

In Search of Christian Freedom

franz stated something in this mind-blowing book which was definitely true for me.. he stated (this is a poor paraphrase) that very early on during a "study", witnesses can easily show what's in the bible regarding god's name, the condition of the dead, living on paradise earth, etc.

once these are proven to a person's satisfaction, when the study moves on to more complicated matters, it is just easier to accept what isn't understood on the basis that so far, everything has seemed true.

by now, there is an emotional investment -and everything up until now seemed fine, so.....................................let's swallow it all, and what is too difficult to swallow comfortably (blood?

For me ISOCF was the first book I read after much of my own research.

I felt empty..still do by times but Ray's book simply explained so many biblical things that as a JW never made any sense.We were told to wait on Jehovah...don't understand no problem no one else does either....it's a mystery like the trinity which they so often malign.

I have not read COC yet but have read the Gentile Times Reconsidered....I had to lay off things for a while as it had become my obsession.

Questions from a non JW

i have a couple of questions that have come to mind as a result of converstations with my jw girlfriend.

1. we were talking the other day and got on the subject of disfellowshipping and i asked her if she thought it was right.

i also asked her about people who had been df'd for something that the wt has since received "new light" on and thus, had been df'd for something that the wt is now teaching is okay.
