Studying the new "Keep on the Watch!" brochure - Contradictions on page 18?
by ozziepost init's a while since i reviewed the publications that dubs use on their "home bible studies", so the release of a new brochure gives us that opportunity again!.
dubs will be using the "keep on the watch!
" brochure to "invite" the lapsed, as well as the recently interested ones to commit themselves to "god's earthly organisation".. the trouble is, that the writing department have used this glossy brochure to misrepresent the 'real' truth.. page 18 shows a picture of a happy social gathering in "the new system".

Already it starts.
by Fleur inmy grandmother hasn't even been put to rest yet and already, my mother starts with "you know that grandma's greatest wish was for you to get reinstated.".
then, one of my siblings tells me that another of my siblings not only said she wouldn't come to grandma's memorial if i went but also that sibling who called me should not still be talking to me; even though i called her to tell her that grandma died.. i am facing the fact that my family may not even give me details of the memorial directly because they won't want me to go.
i don't know if i want to go to another funeral that is really just a commercial for the wts instead of talking about the person who is gone at all.

((((Fleur)))))
I enlisted the help of (not JW) BIL to call the JW family and ask what is going to be done with her ashes. Relatives seemed not to have a clue what to do with them, he told me, and he suggested that I call someone and express my wish that she be scattered by Grandfather's grave which is very close to my home. That would mean so much because then I could go there,
Seems like a fantastic idea to me.
I know that my grandmother was very bothered by the relatives hardline attitude on shunning me, even in times of family emergency and illness
On the thought from your family that your Grandma's last wish was for you to be reinstated...you mentioned before she was the only one to treat you with unconditional love. You mention in this last statement how she was bothered by their shunning practise of you...it seems she really only wanted what was best for you even if it wasn't exactly what she would have ultimately hoped for..which would be a return to the Org.
No matter what your family tells you I think you know deep inside that she wanted you to be happy first and foremost and would not have wanted you to return solely for her and then be unhappy.
You can make it through this Fleur, you have a husband that backs you every step of the way which has been noted in this and several other past threads along with many on the forum who empathize and feel the pain and confusion in your posts on losing your Grandma.

World War 1 and 1914
by Schizm in.
how did it just so happen that a world war took place in the very year that russell had attached so much importance to?
i realize that he expected 1914 to see the end of the world's governments, and of course that didn't happen, but it still seems to be quite remarkable that this war happened that very year ... a war that would later be construed to be the fulfillment of jesus' prediction in matthew 24:7.. the explanation given on the e-watchman site is that satan deliberately caused the war to happen so as to mislead jehovah's witnesses into thinking they had actually seen the fulfillment of bible prophecy, in order to make them think that jesus had returned invisably.. any ideas?.

Making predictions...what does the WT say about it
How
Reliable the Predictions? The uncertainties of life make most people wish they could know the future. The occult promises such knowledge.
Sometimes it seems to work. A North Carolina witch predicted that a neighbor would die on a certain date. The woman did die on that date?a victim of alcohol and pill overdoses.
Noted astrologer Jeanne Dixon claims to have predicted President John Kennedy?s death in Dallas, Texas, in 1963?but she doesn?t say too much about her prediction that the Vietnam War would end in 1966. A group of scientists examining her overall record concluded that her predictions were no more accurate than those of any ordinary person making informed guesses.
Is the future being seen?or, are occultists merely in league with invisible forces who sometimes cause predictions to come true, and sometimes don?t?
***
Multiple Articles ***However, in spite of the ready availability of tea-leaf readers, palmists, astrologers and other types of fortune-tellers, most people do not seek out their predictions. Why?
For one thing, fortune-tellers are so often incorrect. And when they do claim accuracy, often their predictions are so vague and ambiguous as to permit application to just about any event.
***
g75 8/8 p. 4 Fortune-telling?Can It Really Help You? ***Of course, other methods of fortune-telling that are related to astrology (such as certain types of card reading and palmistry) are equally devoid of scientific basis. That is why the predictions of fortune-tellers are so often wrong.
"But they are not always wrong," someone may object. This is true. On occasion, some fortune-tellers have been amazingly accurate. But if their methods are not scientific, what accounts for this accuracy?
***
w81 5/1 p. 11 Insight on the News ***Not human predictions, but the inspired prophecies of God are what come true with unerring accuracy. (Isa. 46:9-11; 2 Pet. 1:20, 21) Hence, God?s Word condemns false foretellers of events.?Deut. 18:10-12.
***
Multiple Articles ***Similar were the predictions from ancient pagan oracles. Greek writer Lucian says of a certain foreteller of events: "He delivered oracles, and gave divine responses, but with great prudence, and giving perplexed, doubtful, or obscure answers, according to the custom of oracles."
At times such oracles gave answers that could be understood in exactly opposite ways.

I'm gettin me a couple more wives!
by gumby ini figure since jehovah had no problem with the faithful men of old having more than one wife, he wouldn't mind if i got me a couple more and won't kick my arse at armageddon.
polygamy was practised without criticism in the old testament.
in fact, it was regulated by law.

I've never known god to allow sin that goes against his arrangement...other than allow some mentioned in the bible to live after commiting death worthy sins.
Are you sure about what the bible says about sin, the surrounding nations must have considered them to be sinners for sure with their screwed up moral reasoning.
I think the only thing they got right was taking a dump outside the City, not sure why they used a stick to wipe their bum instead of an Olive branch tho.
Exodus 22
Social Responsibility
16 "If a man seduces a virgin who is not pledged to be married and sleeps with her, he must pay the bride-price, and she shall be his wife. 17 If her father absolutely refuses to give her to him, he must still pay the bride-price for virgins.Leviticus 21
13 " 'The woman he marries must be a virgin. 14 He must not marry a widow, a divorced woman, or a woman defiled by prostitution, but only a virgin from his own people, 15 so he will not defile his offspring among his people. I am the LORD , who makes him holy. [1] ' "Deuteronomy 22
Marriage Violations
13 If a man takes a wife and, after lying with her, dislikes her 14 and slanders her and gives her a bad name, saying, "I married this woman, but when I approached her, I did not find proof of her virginity," 15 then the girl's father and mother shall bring proof that she was a virgin to the town elders at the gate.In the case of Lot this was easy because he knew his daughters slept around and could vouch for them.
Deuteronomy 22 27 for the man found the girl out in the country, and though the betrothed girl screamed, there was no one to rescue her.
28 If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. [1] He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.Fifty shekels was the fine for rape.
Judges 21
10 So the assembly sent twelve thousand fighting men with instructions to go to Jabesh Gilead and put to the sword those living there, including the women and children. 11 "This is what you are to do," they said. "Kill every male and every woman who is not a virgin." 12 They found among the people living in Jabesh Gilead four hundred young women who had never slept with a man, and they took them to the camp at in .In short, murder of women and children ok but save the virgins…praise Jah you people.
Ezekiel 44
21 No priest is to drink wine when he enters the inner court. 22 They must not marry widows or divorced women; they may marry only virgins of Israelite descent or widows of priests. 23 They are to teach my people the difference between the holy and the common and show them how to distinguish between the unclean and the clean. This law was for the Priests to follow…do you suppose a Priest wrote it?

Schism all of the Studies in the Scriptures along with early WT's note how Russell came up with 1914..
1874....Six thousand years of mans existance on the earth, 7th millenium to begin Christ returns
1914....40 years after 1874 or a biblical generation, armageddon, a comparison taken from when Jesus died 33ce to (73ce remaining hold out Jews killed at Masada) gave the 40 years.
They were totally convinced of this because they said there were three lines of proof, the first one was the example given, the second was the Pyramid measurements and the third was seven times prophecy of 2520 years. They stated in publications if it were only one line of evidence it would be guesswork but because of all three it was undisputable proof...later on they dropped all but the seven times calculation and forgot that statement about guesswork.

Time and unforseen occurrance...not sure.
I have thought about what you say Schizm and history tells us that the events which set up WW1 were not sudden, certainly not caused by an angry Satan who is at War in Heaven with Jesus.
It had been building for some time and many attribute WW1 to three main things.
The rise of Nationalism, the building up of the Military and Aliances and finally the Assasination of Archduke Ferdinand.

Gumby it's good to see you searching the scriptures, meditating on the more important things. Getting a firm hold on the real life as Peter said...especially in the shower.
Maybe we could release a new insightful book which looks into the OT bible entitled MY Book of Horror Stories.
The first man mentioned in the Bible as taking two wives was Lamech who also boasted about killing people...go figure..the same things and people that make the papers now made the papers back then. Killing, rape, incest, destruction, war and lots of strange sex stories...they needed this in the bible or people would have stopped reading everytime they came to a long winded account which started with son of and carried on for 40 generations.
Besides Gumby were supposed to argue over one woman and then Valis offers to cut her in half to see who really loves her..problem is just like many bible stories go, someone goes and opens up a couple bottles of wine and invites the Moabites twins from next door and we all start dancin ring around the rosy of the Texas long horn...couldn't find a calf damn-it.

So much for "fading"... we're out!
by AlmostAtheist ingina just got off the phone with her mom.
we were tired of lying to these otherwise nice people, not to mention disinfecting the car of all "worldly" paraphenalia, and fearing the inevitable "pop-in" visit while holiday decorations are up.
she felt bad about it, and so did i. but now it's over.

Take care of each other and your baby, it will be the comfort you need to deal with family shunning.BTW
For those of you of a praying bent
Is that where the expression get bent comes from...doesn't seem so bad in that context.

My head is spinning!
by bebu inthis morning the jw lady (p) and her daughter (m) came over for a second follow-up visit.
however, this is the first time m has been present for any extensive conversation.
i'm glad she showed up, though, because some major things happened, and i think if there is any breakthrough forthcoming it will be terrific to see 2 in one family get out at the same time.. .

For a Christian Bebu you sure are a little Debil...if she comes back for the Proclaimers book you have a few good questions you need answered from that as well don't you.
