When I was regular pioneer I never managed to reach the hours requirement.. So apparently, it wasn't me, I was just unlucky I hadn't been caught up in a pandemic. -

The "Regular Pioneer" title has now become a total joke
by pistolpete inwe just had our co visit a few weeks ago.
apparently, he was encouraging all who could to regular pioneer, to at least try it out for a year.
because of this, we had a few people in our hall become one.. so this weekend we were on zoom service, and the sister that was just appointed was talking about it.

Pioneer was always a joke, a no-entity office, unless you were a male on the course for CO-grade career. Essentially it had all the requirements of ms/elder (plus the hours) but with no actual privileges.
I really don't know how they justify keep this 'rank' in the post-Covid era.

Research question
by JeffT ini'm doing a little background research for a novel.
what is the craziest thing you heard a witness say was demonized, and what did they do about it?.

Wow, great topic-trip down memory lane. Alright, prepare to enter THE TWILIGHT ZONE.
-In my country, couples traditionally have some sort of wedding crowns put on them by the priest during the religious wedding ceremony. So, a such couple of relatives who had later converted to jws, accommodated one day my mother and her sister to their home, days after their baptisms. Both my mother and aunt supposedly witnessed demonic attacks during the night. Pain chests, unable to breath etc. I suppose it was some sort of night-terror or something; but they curiously witnessed it both, at least allegedly. Anyway, they searched the next day for anything in the house that could have had demonic influence, and they determined that the only such item left from the days before jw conversion would have been the wedding crowns. After they got rid of it, they supposedly weren't 'attacked' again.
-A magic charm my grandfather was given at his wedding day. He was told that if he destroyed that talisman he would die. He was not a jw then. Back in that day, rural villages were filled with superstition and amateur charmers. According to him, that charm caused him great physical pains and corroded his marriage. 20 to 25 years forward, when we was Bible studying, when they reached the part in the book about getting rid of any charms and stuff, he was afraid to destroy it. With the help of his teacher, they tried first to burn it, but it wouldn't burn. In the end, they managed to break it to pieces. After that, his pains ended supposedly.

"Criminal Minds" quote
by neat blue dog ini was just watching an old episode of criminal minds and there was this description of cults:.
"cults commonly have their own language.
they invent or redefine certain words only the cult members understand.

Yes, Orwell had defined this characteristic of a cult (the Party, in that case) in "1984": the newspeak.

What is the youngest a child has been baptised as a JW?
by Ultimate Axiom inthe youngest reference i have come across is in the 1992 watchtower (march 1st page 27) - “in the summer of 1946, i was baptized at the international convention in cleveland, ohio.
although i was only six years of age…”.
i would like to find more examples of this, particularly of examples in more recent times.

7 years old the youngest I've heard of. The funny thing is, JWs are take quite pride in the "fact" that they don't practice infant baptism like the "false" Christians. But nobody stops to think much difference is there between baptizing at 7 or 10 and infant baptism? It's just infant baptism with added hypocrisy. -

When was your last Kingdom Hall meeting?
by RULES & REGULATIONS ini stopped going to kingdom hall meetings about nine years ago.
i was fading for the longest time, refused to go out in field service, dropped out of the ministry school talks, no longer answered at the watchtower study, arrived at the meetings the last second, and left as soon as possible.
i couldn't take attending the meetings any longer.

6 years ago. It was a usual meeting, I didn't know then that it would be my last. I was PIMO long before, I was posting here already. I just needed a push. That push was learning that a friend had just DA'ed. I thought, that's it, I should at least have the courage, if not to DA as my friend, to completely drop out.

Life of Brian is also a hilarious extremely incorrect film. They don't leave anything untouched. They even predict (prophesy?) today's PC insanity in that "I want to have babies" scene. Such a prophetic scene it needs rewatching:

If we're talking about today's films, it's practically impossible to find anything that doesn't comply to the newly mandated diversity norms of Hollywood. They don't have much of a choice, the producers and directors: they have to be PC in order to be considered for awards and get high scores from critics. There are exceptions of independent films like Infidel.
I'd say True Detective Season 3 has just a weenie tiny bit of non-PC implication, in that the protagonist is a black conservative and makes an irritated remark to the white liberal journalist that tries to preach to him. Maybe it's not much, but, amidst of drought...
The Highwaymen, about the cops that killed Bonnie and Clyde, has also a slight anti-PC feeling to it. Again, we're talking about drops, but welcome ones.
Also, the comedy-horror "Get out" does a funny satire of white wealthy liberals who patronize black people and virtue-signal while being worse than Calvin Candie in Django Unchained.
Now, if we go back in time, we surely can find more non-PC films, even though Hollywood people, being artists, always had a tendency for marxist or meta-marxist ideas and social patronizing.
Gladiator was a good masculine film, and non-ashamed of it. Remember the scene where the poet gets killed on the first second of the first fight. If that film was made today, the masculine general would be killed straight away and the pacifist poet (who would have another dozen of diversity checks) would beat everyone magically and then become emperor. Traditional virtues (in the original literal Roman sense, virtus meant basically manliness) such as family and religion are also portrayed favorably in the movie. I'm pretty sure Gladiator couldn't be produced today.

Oh my God, what did I just read...!
It's unbelievable, these videos should be illegal, the whole cult should be illegal worldwide, I can't stand them any more!
On a more sober reflection, having parents who are in the cult and will prob look at that video: I think the antidote to that venom from our part is to tell them we love them. While the Society tells them to hate us. We should fight back with love (only with our closest ones; I don't care about the others. I prefer they hate me rather than pester me). Then, maybe, they will stop and think, who's inciting them to hate, and who's loving them, hence, who is evil and who is good.

I recently had the sad opportunity to attend 2 JW funerals. The first was a few months ago and the second today. The first was my grandfather's and the second of an old friend back from my jw days. I attended the first funeral in person, while I watched via zoom the second one; however, I wasn't able to finish watching -I had to sign out.
I'll explain why.
In both cases, I would love to hear some things about these people. Some things about their lives, about their characteristics that made them loved to their loved ones, some anecdotes from their life, some thigs they used to say or to do. I am SO enraged, that I have to say, nothing of the sort was heard. Only a line of introductory plain comments like "His name was [], he was born in [], he was married to [] and had [] children, and he was baptized in []". This only takes around 60 seconds. The rest of the whole 45' minute talk is a typical propaganda JW speech talking about ransom, resurrection and, of course, how to join and stay in the Org if you wanna avoid getting fried and see again your deceased loved one. And this is not because of an elder that does the talk. That's a script there for every jw funeral, like a public talk. I've seen this script, the elders are supposed to be VERY brief about the deceased's life, and concentrate on the indoctrination message.
They don't allow a shred of dignity to anyone inside their group, not even at death.
Even at death, one is not allowed to have a talk dedicated to their person. Even at death, one is only a tool to bring in recruits (and even that, doesn't happen; most of the attendees are already in, and the rest are not going to convert because of a funeral talk.) The more I think about it, the more I realize this is one of the worst aspects of that CULT.
This thought has stuck with me since the first funeral, resurfaced today, and is making me sick.
If you are wavering in your doubts about this group, think about that. Let that fact sink in.
I'm dreading the day when my jw parents are going to be gone from this earth, and an elder will use the instance to make a jw talk according to borg guidelines.
