Special Local Needs From Branch This Week
by kneehighmiah ini hear there will be a special local needs outline provided by the branch this week.
does anyone have details?
will this be a regional thing only?

I'm guessing it must be a regional thing. I live in the region that was scolded about the Detroit convention. Maybe we will be recieving a follow up tongue lashing. As I said before, the elders attended a special meeeting 2 weeks ago regarding the convention.

Local needs is usually only 10 minutes and is the topic is determined by the body of elders. This is a 20 minute part given by branch directive. It was not included as part of the service meeting schedule.

Secular JWs: The future of the organization?
by kneehighmiah ini was raised in a jewish community.
the secular jews greatly outnumbered the orthodox jews.
like jws they had a tight knit community.

I joined foreign language and traveled for a bit. Interestingly I recently ran into someone I knew while in foreign language who is now a member of this site. we both happen to be college educated. There werevseveral people who were college educated and beyond in foreign langue age. M.D.s and masters. I even met a J.D. in NYC. She was still in her twenties.

I was raised in a Jewish community. The secular Jews greatly outnumbered the Orthodox Jews. Like JWs they had a tight knit community. Judaism was more of a culture to them than a religion. There many Jewish people who were athiest and even participated in Christmas and other secular holidays. Yet they still kept their traditional holidays and customs as these foster a sense of community. However, the negative aspects of the religion have been toned down. The mosaic law which once mandated death for sinners is no longer enforced.
As the JW teachings trend towards buffoonery and the end continues to be delayed, could the GB stem the tide of brain drain by loosening up? Even though I am no longer a believer I would still be willing to attend meetings on occasion if given the option. Instead I'm forced to attend every meeting or be threatened with an inquisition because I'm still an MS and it's hard to resign. We throw some nice witness events in our area and it would be so nice if people could attend these events without having to satisfy a meeting and service quota. I think if the control was loosened many people would stay. It seems here that most posters want to still be with their families, yet they aren't allowed to be. People care more about the sense of community than the beliefs. If the GB encouraged college and betterment of oneself they would see many JWs attend and still stick around the organization. Instead the GB has really forced my hand in the matter. Eventually I'll have to leave, so they're losing out on someone who would have been willing to stay and support the local community. I enjoy building projects, donating clothing, cooking meals and tutoring witness kids in school. Many on this board do too. Took bad we've been forced or take our talents elsewhere. If the JWS became more secular, many would stay.

2014: do you see Witnesses ramping up activity? What will the aftermath be in 2015?
by JimmyPage injw's often say they don't serve with any dates in mind.
but the fact is many of them can't fathom why the end just hasn't come yet.
since 2014 marks 100 years of invisible rule many witnesses can't help but think this has some special meaning.

Yes they're ramping up so much that only 2 people were baptized at a recent convention. Several people I know have stopped attending so late in this time of the end. Lol.
@crazyguy Ive heard the same thing about the writing department. My friend who is very devout says the end must come within 10 years or the organization won't last in the US. i got into a debate with another elder mts grad friend who doesn't believe the org will make the necessary major changes because that would be admitting they're wrong. All doomsday cults have eventually died, many before my time as I'm young. I don't think anyone who's been out for more than five years can actually comment on whats been going on. Many active dubs are very aware of inaccuracies and awaiting reform.

JW new recruits are more and more uneducated, unstable and fanatical. They can't even spell correctly. All my JW friends just shake our heads at some of the stuff that comes out and kinda sweep it under the rug.
