This episode was mostly based on the moonies and scientologists, as well as other cults like heavens gate. Certain things are similar to JWs but it takes more effort to see.

I felt it, happened during the meeting but it was more of a light shake. Everyone was looking around, surprised, not knowing what to do. Funny thing is that the brother on the platform had no idea what was going on or even felt it.

2014: do you see Witnesses ramping up activity? What will the aftermath be in 2015?
by JimmyPage injw's often say they don't serve with any dates in mind.
but the fact is many of them can't fathom why the end just hasn't come yet.
since 2014 marks 100 years of invisible rule many witnesses can't help but think this has some special meaning.

Depends. If something big happens in 2014, whether it's a big political shift or some big catastrophe like 9/11, JWs will see it as a sign and increase their motivation in work. If nothing really goes on through 2014, some will leave, some will have increased doubts, but most will just carry on and do what they always will do. I still think there will be some growth but it might slow down as the years go by or remain the same as always.

as an idea, you could always use the breast pocket of your jacket to hide a camera or recorder, just use a pocket square to cover it up. Make sure to not use the same pattern as on your tie, it's the general rule, unless that's all you have.

Didnt I tell you that there is something wrong with this organization?
by exWTslave inthats how my grand mother responded when all of our family members came out of jw organization, either by disassociation or by disfellowshipping.. when we all started studying with jws, my grandmother too was there, but she stopped the study when the discussion over the dead happened.
she told the study conductor: i am convinced that there is only life, but no death.
because when my husband died of heart attack, i was not shaken by the incident.

Some are using tablets and phones now. i know my aunt uses them to show people the JW.org website. She said a sister from Bethel uses her tablet. They're really pushing for the website now, probably a way of tackling apostate websites.
@redvip2000, it has gotten dumbed down even more. There was a Kingdom Ministry a while ago that said to use an article from the Watchtower where there is an imaginary conversation between a household and a Witness, as a way to preach to people. The whole argument, questions, and answers are written in that article. No need to say anything but read.

Why JWs don't celebrate Mother's day
by Laika inin the uk, this sunday is mother's day!
ask a jw why they don't celebrate holidays and they'll tell you it's because of some nefarious pagan connection.
but this is really just a cover.

I started to wonder this myself when I did some research. Although Mother's Day has happened in Greek and Roman paganism, today's mothers day has nothing to do with them or no connection whatsoever. Mother's Day was started in the US by a lady named Anna Jarvis who wanted to dedicate a special day for mothers. Eventually the celebration expanded to other countries. Ironically, she later wanted the holiday she promoted removed because it became very commercialized. how is this pagan? No idea. Even if a Witness argues that it's dedicating a date for your mom and it can be seen as "worship", it doesn't make sense. After all, there are celebrations and days dedicated to high school graduates, baby showers, wedding anniversaries, etc. Plus, I have a JW cousin who I saw write on Facebook, "happy teachers day" (she's a teacher). its celebrated in her country, not here but that's a lot like Mother's Day in the sense that it dedicates a day to teachers. I've never heard any information against teachers or children's day.

What the writer of Revelation intended by his cryptic 666 mark of the beast reference.
by Island Man init's amazing how simple the answer is and yet the watchtower organization seems completely oblivious to it.
revelation itself tells you what the number is: "a man's number", "the number of his name".
the writer of revelation spells it out and yet they don't see it!

Next time, you could say how famine has dropped. It's easy to find statistics on that. I don't know if you're from the US, but violent crime rates have dropped here and being murdered is less common than that from the 1950's. Also, point to the fact that women have better right and comforts than in the past, civil rights movements have improved for people of different backgrounds and colors. Sure it's not all perfect but it's a lot better than before. The only reason things seem worse is because today we are able to know about it more than in the past. The news highlights stories like these. Technology allows us to stay in constant communication with the world around us, and people like to know more about others. Of course, there are things that have gotten worse but to say everything is all bad is an exaggeration.
