Does it feel good to hurt? Why do we make ourselves sad?
by AlmostAtheist ini've noticed that there are certain songs, movies, memories, etc that make me sad.
there is even a category of music we call "sad songs".
it seems obvious that we would never listen to something that makes us sad.

It's easier to feel other emotions like anger, or nothing. Sad songs give us an outlet for sad feelings that is "safe." When the song is over we can get back to normal life, or if we really need to experience sadness, the music can be a catalyst to help the emotions come up into consciousness.

It is a mistake to assume that just because there were positive results from an experience, that these positive things could not have been gained elsewhere and at less emotional and psychological cost. Sometimes we attempt to put a positive spin on a bad situation simply because it is easier than facing the task of processing that bad situation - as if somehow this so-called "good" tempers the entire damaging experience into something that is "okay," and therefore unnecessary to resolve, "get over" or otherwise "process."

Looking for a new laptop, any one own a tablet?
by thecarpenter ini'm in the market for a new laptop and the convertable tablet has caught my eye.
gateway recently came out with a 14" widescreen laptop/tablet that is a stunner.
anyone have or uses a tablet pc and what do you think of it?

I wouldn't get another Dell laptop, although their monitors are great. I've had an Inspiron 8600 widescreen since Dec '03. The first one had to have a new motherboard put in because the power jack failed on the first day. Then the battery life was abyssmal. After about a year, I had to be plugged in at all times because of having about 11 minutes of battery life. Now the 2nd powerjack has failed and I can only charge in the docking station. Cheap components, and poor build quality, that's my opinion. My husband recently got a Gateway laptop, it's fairly low end, but with a 15.4" widescreen. He likes it better than the Dell, but the left mouse button on the touchpad has already gone belly up.

Maybe it's a fear that her husband thinks they are right, rather than herself thinking they are right?

LOL @ permafried. I felt that way for months afterwards. Needed a break from it all. Had enough massage too, I think I spent the first 6 months hoping nobody would touch me. I've recovered from THAT now, but still ain't normal. ;)
