HA! more like: Damn, all I've got is Vinny and Perry, and they both think I'm going to turn all those carnivores into herbivores so they can have a little petting zoo. Waste of my goddamn time.

How do you think God feels about atheists? Angry? Amused?
by AlmostAtheist inhey guys, .
have you ever considered what god thinks about atheists?
assume for a moment that he/she/it is there: what's the reaction to non-believers?

Wow. Explains a lot. Vinny left the JWs, but he's still a bible literalist. Unbelievable. I'll bet if he told all those genius scientist deists that he so admires that he believes God had fisticuffs in heaven and threw a literal satan down here to provide literal tests to mankind until he decided enough was enough and literally changed carnivorous lions into herbivorous ones, they would likely respond something like this:
Bwahahhahhahahahahahaaaaaaa!!!!!
LMAOOOOOOOOO!!!
Wahhhhhaaaaaaaaaahahahaha!!!!
Look at the silly little bible literalist fundie!!!!
Bwahahaha!!!!!!
Bad news for the silly little fundie Vinny!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

I JUST GOT THIS EMAIL........
by Mary infrom a former co-worker of mine that says the following:.
"...[her daughter who is attending university of toronto] is working on a research paper for her religion course and she has chosen to do it on jehova (sp?
) witnesses.

an easy place to start would be the videos SeattleNiceGuy did for youtube. http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=hopefulatheist
He addresses some of the concerns without sounding vitriolic. She can get an idea of what in particular interests her about JWs, then pursue that as a particular focus.

I'd say, keep it simple. She might be interested in the reexamine site, and freeminds, but other than that, it might be good to give her the link to religioustolerance.org. Though some of the articles there have now been rewritten to favor the Scientologists, I believe most of the JW stuff is still pretty neutral. It might also be interesting to point her toward the discussion pages on the Wikipedia articles.
Unless this is a thesis paper, it's probably just a minor research project and she doesn't need that much information. If she's open to advice, it might be good to suggest she pick a particular controversy and focus on that. News articles are good references in a college paper, Op-Ed pieces usually aren't good references, except where used to illustrate controversy.

Sweet strawberries?
by greendawn inthis may not be the case in the usa, australia etc but whenever i buy strawberries they are disappointing in that they are not sweet at all and only the addition of sugar makes them reasonably good.
only once i had strawberries that were sweet as they should be, i believe they were from scotland, otherwise they are just colour they look good to the eye but they are not tasty (aren't they like the watchtower society?
does anyone know of specific sweet varieties that can be grown at home?

We always did strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and peaches. We had both cherry and apple trees in our yard, so none of those since we could just go in the backyard and eat them off the tree. :)

We're coming up on strawberry season here in Oregon. If you can get them at the farmer's market or roadside stands, they're the best strawberrys you'll ever have.

6 Years on JWD today
by blondie inhave i stayed too long at the fair.
there are many names and faces that i don't see much any more.
my own style of posting has changed due to my limitations.. welcome to the new ones and stop by some of you we are missing if you can.. blondie.

Blondie, you're one of the reasons I keep coming around this place. Nearly 4 years for me, and I think I've missed very few of your great reviews. I have better attendance here than I did at the Kingdumb Hall. It's a good thing you weren't conducting the real WT study (the brainwashy one,) I might never have gotten out of there without the excruciating boredom. We once had a C.O. admit that boring talks = low meeting attendance.

Baptisms being "annulled" - has anyone heard of this?
by misguided inlast weekend was a long weekend in bc, so i decided to try to get my family together for a camping trip.
i'm df''d so my parents can have no contact with me so refused my invitation.
my youngest brother was never baptized.

I suppose an argument could be made for annulling your baptism if you were baptized as a minor, then annul it immediately upon becoming a legal adult, with the argument that children cannot enter into their own binding contracts. But at most it would be a stall tactic, because baptism is a religious commitment, not a legal or business contract. Perhaps some people get away with it, since the elders are not law-trained.

:::At some point the mods are going to realize that he's only interested in a flame war and he will BWAHAHAHA his way to a ban.:::
I agree, I wonder why he's still here? I also notice how he answers "in order" only when he thinks he has an easy target, but the real debaters (of whom I have never claimed to be one,) he completely skips over, or simply put up line after tedious line of insults and provocation, without ever addressing the points of debate with logic and reason.
Vinny, in case you missed it, Posting Guidelines:
1. Insulting, threatening or provoking language
2. Inciting hatred on the basis of race, religion, gender, nationality or sexuality or other personal characteristic.
5. Spamming -Please don't add the same comment to more than one forum.I wonder how much red there would be in Vinny's posts if a mod decides to edit out all the name calling and personal insults? Who cares if it's "not Christian," I have rarely seen a ruder, nastier person on these forums.

So... if I'm totally wrong (and lame) that it's NOT intellectual dishonesty for you to continue to insist that Einstein was a theist and a Christian, in the face of overwhelming evidence from Einstein's own mouth and pen to the contrary, what would you call it? Furthermore, why should it matter one whit how many intelligent people believe (or not) in a Christian God, if you are right, you should have no need for the logical fallacy of appealing to authority in order to bolster your arguments? As far as I know, "this smart guy believes it so it must be true," was never a particularly good tactic for presenting fact.
