I think the real thing that is hurtful, is the lack of understanding of circumstances.
And there is also a very skewed point of what is and what isn't "proof of repentance."

JW's commit the biggest sin IMO, wasting time pretending that...
by Fleur inpeople who are alive, are dead.. in their half witted brain washed wtbts indoctrination, they are taught that they have to shun people they love if they find themselves out of the borg's good graces.
doesn't matter what the 'crime' is, could be simply disagreeing with something in a wt article, could be any one of a million things.
it's not always the "big f" that gets people disfellowshipped.

May I look inside your heads for a moment?
by SwampThing inhello again, forum members.... well, as many of you have suggested, i?ve been reading, and reading, and reading... i?ve even purchased the book several of you recommended, "crisis of conscience.
" it should be delivered next week.
some of your stories are absolutely heart-wrenching.

Swamp,
You are very much welcome.
In this forum, you will probably find the most non-judgemental people.
But you will also find the most opinionated.
We learned a lot through WT.
ONE thing you will find is that just about EVERYONE in the forum has been played a sucker.
With much Christian love,

Satanus,
Pretty much because I still believe in God and I consider Him a friend.
He has never let me down.

Swamp,
I'm one of those who came into JW as an adult.
The part about surrendering your sovereinty to others???
Very simple.
And I speak only for myself. (Although I suspect others will feel the same.)
I NEVER THOUGHT about it being my surrending of MY WILL towards Humans.
I though of it in terms of Surrendering my will towards God. And THAT, I still want to do.
It's like this...
What made those Branch Davidians surrender their OWN WIVES - to let them SLEEP with David Koresh.
It's because those men THOUGHT that David Koresh was a representative of God.
We were taught that to submit to the Elders and the WT Gov. Body, that loyalty to them is loyalty to God.
Dude, no offense taken.
But GROWN MEN do it all the time.
What the heck do you think those Japanese Kamakazi Pilots were dying for???
They submitted themselves to their leaders because they also thought that they were doing it for God.
And TRULY, NO OFFENSE TO YOU either - but I'm sure that when you look at your life, you might find that also YOU - at times are not the true pilot of yourself either. -

What First Stumbled You?
by glitter inwhat was the very first thing that "stumbled" you?
mine was: i was about 5 or 6 years old and of course i used to find it really hard to find things in my bible at meetings (couldn't find the books quick enough before they moved onto the next paragraph and used to get frustrated).
i had the idea to make little tabs for the edges of the pages so i could tell where the books were - so i asked mum to help me neatly write out the book names on tiny slips of paper and tape them inside.

Fleur,
BUT, now that I think about it.
When I was ALSO deleated as a MS later on.
I was also suicidal.
I guess my friend SAVED my life, because I see how hard HIS suicide affected me and other people.
BTW, today, I'm MUCH better.
Boards like this help.
Not to mention, Holy S#it...
Could I stop field service long enough to give the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania Incorporated a reality check??? -

Fleur,
Yes. I've been accused before of NOT being a good friend.
Sometimes that's justified and sometimes not.
But I was 27 at the time and he was 32.
It was the first time in my life that I really felt like I was a good friend.
Most people, when it comes to suicide, have regrets. They think, "Oh, what could I have done."
But at least I have the peace that I did what I could have.
Two days before he died, we were talking on the phone. And he told me that he loved me.
And for the most part, GUYS usually don't say that kind of stuff to other guys.
The whole thing still haunts me to this day. -

Fleur,
My Best Friend committed suicide in part because he was a MS, a former Bethelite, and was removed because he went on a "Witness Cruise" and there were a couple of underage drinkers there (witnesses).
Because he was the "person in charge," he got the blame for it and they deleted him.
After that, it was really tough for him.
Imagine me and him riding together to a MS/Elder's meeting (I was also an MS) and HIM knowing that this was the LAST MS meeting he would be at - because the CO was there and he KNEW he would be removed.
About a two weeks after he was deleted as an MS, he killed himself.
The only good thing, if there is one - was that the afternoon before he killed himself, he cooked me lunch.
He NEVER did that before.
And I was wondering why he was cooking me lunch.
Anyway... -

Fleur,
Thanks.
Really. It happend.
I remember it like it was yesterday. Even though it was about 8 years ago.
I remember, that NIGHT my BEST friend committed suicide, it was bookstudy night.
I told the brothers that I wanted to sit out.
I had SO MUCH pressure to conduct.
But as a "good dub" I did.
After that, the elders PRAISED ME for conducting saying, and I quote, "WE were worried about you for a while there."
Translation... "WTF??? You would REALLY consider not conducting a bookstudy to grieve over this sinner???"
(He was a dub as well.)
Anyway thanks for the kind words. -

DeeeeeeMeeeennnnnzzzz !!??!?!?!?
by ApagaLaLuz inthe recent superstition thread got me to thinking.
growing up i was terrified of "demons".
sometimes when we would have witness gatherings they would start in to "demon" stories.

Chevy,
Hey! This is Confucious.
I'm the one that started that Superstition thread.
Anyway, yes. One experience.
I was studying with some lady.
Suddely she looks over my shoulder and says, "YOU!!!!!!" (as in You again???)
I looked behind me and saw nothing.
But the plug from the toaster (or coffe maker) or something in the kitchen unplugged "by itself.)
Then the screen door on the home opened up and slammed shut.
It was pretty bizarre.
