The problem for many JW's is they have surrendered their ability to think for themselves. Over and over and over they have been told there is nowhere else to go and so even when they see or even encounter problems with the Org. all they have is their conditioned response...nowhere else to go...wait on jehovah...we all know the drill... A great place to go for starters would be right here because most of us have had to get over this mind set. JW's need to see that they have been misled. You can be a happy x-JW and there is an alternative. Does anybody have a hammer and chisel

OMG! When does it end? Cognitive Dissonance is pandemic!
by upside/down ini just had a "sister" leave our house... she was getting her hair done, by my wife.... she is married to a demoted-elder and is very r&f... her poor hubby has been on the receiving end of so much abuse from the borg... and they "don't understand it".. i've been sowing seeds of "new light" with her from jwd and even though their sitch just keeps getting worse and worse and her hubby just keeps getting more and more depressed... she actuall laid on me today the old " but where else can we go?
only the wts has the truth".. i thought i was going to puke.... she even laid out the old " don't forsake the gathering of yourselves"...proof we need to be at the meetings.
even though she admits that that is where the source of all the abuse eminates.

When Jehovah's Witnesses do bad - Are criticisms of JW's valid? Part I
by rambaldi inwhen we see news reports of jehovahs witnesses who are reported to have done something bad, what do we think?
sometimes people ridicule us for that.
obey and become his special property, disobey and be rejected.

Would the WTS torture the "apostates" if they could?
by greendawn indo you think the wts would physically torture and even execute "apostates" if we all lived in a context that allowed them to do so?
much as the catholic church did in the middle ages when they had the opportunity to treat their dissenters as they wished.
already the way the gb wants apopstates treated is as vicious as can be, manifests a deeply seated maliciousness and animosity and is calculated to hurt as much as possible under the present day circumstances.

I think they probably would if they could. They would love to silence the voice of opposition - permenantly, and send a warning to the R&F. Of course they believe we are in cahoots with the devil so maybe they would have their own version of the Salem witch hunt...all to keep the congregation clean...with God on their side (no doubt)

Wife is pretty much done!
by mkr32208 ini haven't been here much for the last 6 months or so because... (drum roll please) my wife has pretty much called it quits!
she's not been to a meeting now in over a year!
(well she went to visit a gung-ho friend for the weekend and went to one sunday) no service in at least twice that long!

I think lots of us go through some sort of crisis when we finally figure out the WT has been decieving us. When I got out I did a lot of drinking and partying which didn't help my marrage. But there is such a void to fill and for me such a lot of anger. Give her a little time and support and she'll come around. As you sid it's better than her being a dub.r

Apocalypse delayed again
by Hellrider ini have not been in contact with jws since around 1988. i initially got out at the age of 15 in 1987, then there was some back-and-forth-crap, i went to some meetings, but then i was thru, in 1988. the only contact after that was one time, in 1989, when my grandmother died (she was a jw), and the service was held at kh.
anyway, the point here is: it was new to me that the wts is in the process of moving away from the 1914-doctrine.
and moving towards a more "liberal" kind of "well, never mind what we said about 1914, we are the last generation and the signs are there"-doctrine, without even trying to define whatever that means.

All the society can say now is that he end is coming "soon", but what does "soon" mean?...Soon it'll be time for supper or soon men will be on Mars? Soon means nothing concrete. The old WT lion roars with a feeble voice and he's got no teeth.

You will never convince me that the truth is taught by the witnesses and maybe we'll never convince you otherwise...so this discussion with you, and your being here is like a broken pencil...pointless.

Watchtower misquotes of secular sources
by ithinkisee insometimes it may be hard to get someone to see how serious a problem it is that the society misquotes sources.. here are a couple classic examples though:.
trinity brochure:.

If you torture the Bible long enough it'll confess to anything...The WT are masters at this look at all the scriptural evidence they had regarding "the generation".

Finally, I found the REAL truth!
by N at H inhello everyone, just wanted to say hello and let you know a bit about my story and tell you how thankful i am that i found this site!.
i was never a baptized jw although in the early 90's i studied for about 3 years and was an un-baptized publisher for about 1 year before my doubts about some of the beliefs and also my inability to overlook the constant hypocracy of the elders did me in.
sadly it was not before i dragged the love of my life into it, and also my sister (they are both baptized although she left after seeing the elders double standards when it came to doling out counsel/punishment to their own families, he is still in) anyway even though i couldn't bring myself to commit to the org because of the crap i saw going on in the 2 different halls i attended i still believed it was the truth...what an idiot!

The GB of the JWs guilty or naive and ignorant ?
by greendawn insome people believe that the gb of the jws are a bunch of well meaning but naive and ignorant individuals who do not really mean to cause the harm they do cause in the r & f and they may not even be aware of it.
i personally disagree with that and believe that everything they do is based on shrewd cold blooded calculations that are meant to promote their interests, that they sold their souls to the devil as it were in exchange of a huge intoxicating power trip.
they are fully aware of the harm they cause but their conscience is singed beyond all sensitivity.

The Governing body don't live in the real world. They have no real experience in facing unemployment, taxes, making ends meet etc. also they have no real concept of parenting, loving ones children or feelings of insecurity about growing old or retirement. This is why in part many of their teacings/rules seem out of touch. Yes they are ignorant adout many facets of life and relationships but they must be aware of this. I think they are guilty of wrongful leadership and the willful harming of others, but I don't think they really care.

Exactly, the watchtower org. is no longer relevant in the lives of many younger ones. So how can the borg make itself more relevant?...by keeping people dependent on it. Keep people isolated, mis-informed about the world around them, and have them live in fear. This is exactly what the Org. does it's an abusive system but thankfully with sites like this and the tendancy of younger people to be more questioning and informed the org., I believe is fighting a losing battle.
