Rotary, Lions Club & Kiwanis, etc

like so many have said on this site, it is hard to begin again and make new friends.

this has been a real challenge for me.

i recently joined a local rotary club and have become acquainted with some very dedicated business people (some retired), wanting to be of service to others.

NewYork44M. you made me laugh. Yep, so many jdubs think that everything is evil unless it's sanctioned by the big 8. Actually, it took me a few months toactually go to my first meeting. I was so scared to be with wordly people in a 'club' atmosphere. Keeping an open mind is so hard, after you've been indoctinated that all worldlies are bad. Well, you can tell your father, that I didn't see any child sacrifice while we were teaching reading or passing out the dictionaries. Maybe we will do the child sacrificing at the food pantry! I'll keep you posted as time progresses.

BTW: I like your comments on the site, NewYork44m.

Like so many have said on this site, it is hard to begin again and make new friends. This has been a real challenge for me. I recently joined a local Rotary Club and have become acquainted with some very dedicated business people (some retired), wanting to be of service to others. It has been fun and the people have been great. In the past few months I have been involved in teaching reading in a school to disadvantaged kids, a dictonary drive to the local children, collecting school supplies and currently involved in a canned food drive for the food pantry.

One of the things I cherished about being a Witness was the world-wide brotherhood, along with the singleness of purpose. The Rotary is such an organization. Like congregations, each club has their own personality, so you may need to look around for a good fit. I'm sure it's not for everybody, but it may be good for someone who is looking for good associates, while helping others as a part of a group in humanitarian efforts. If you have any questions about Rotary, please feel free to PM me.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

I imagine the Lions Club, Kiwanis and other civic minded organizations may be similar.

What about the word "love"?

Certainly if we are to LOVE Jehovah with our whole heart soul and mind and LOVE our neightbor as ourselves, it would be right up there in the count...Not

that I actually BELIEVE that it would be, but it SHOULD.

Avoid or call them back?

daughter missed a call from an elder tonight...we've missed meetings for about a month now.

she is dating a worldly guy and i'm sure someone has seen them together.

makes us nervous and with us being fairly new to the fading facet... should she call or avoid.

Hello Angus Beef, It's never easy, but you will get through it. Just keep to your plan. It gets easier as long as you don't engage them. Eventually, they will stop coming. Hugs to you, 4thgen

JW children taught cold calling techniques

i had a double glazing salesman call today.

he was so irritating because he didn't tell me who he was but instead started asking me questions about my house and some slightly personal questions.

in the end i found myself saying who are you and what do you want.. then i thought heck this is what i was taught to do.

Yes, cold calling, sales techniques and public speaking. We were also were taught to clean.

Ever wonder why JW’s either work for/own a cleaning company or are sales people?

Who needs a higher education when you can mop floors or sell Avon?

Advice on children

my ex-wife got married in december last year.

so our visting arrangement with my children has changed.

there was a misunderstanding in our visiting arrangment, we agreed on that they would spend the weekends (once in two weeks) with me they would stay until sunday.

The only reason you should agree to take them to the meetings is if you plan to return yourself. Otherwise, you are teaching the children of the importance of meetings. Otherwise, you should make your stand clear right now and ...

today's watchtower lesson touched on the history of hezekiah's reign, and then made a surprising modern-day application.

having used my time before the meeting to research the underlying material instead of highlighting my magazine, i personally found this to be an upsetting study, and decided to put this warning here in the hopes that some active witnesses read it.. the most important thing i want to say to you is that the actual flow of events in this bible account were severely misrepresented, and that there are some disturbing implications in the distortions that were made.

1. hezekiah's father ahaz makes himself a vassal to assyria out of fear of their overwhelming might (2 kings 16:7, 8).. 2. upon becoming king, hezekiah rebels against assyria (2 kings 18:7).
