  i was invited to a small get-together by a long time friend.

  we both served as elders for years.

  he is in his late 70s.

  Actually, they are apostates, they just don't like that label. An apostate is someone that turns away from watchtower teachings, which is what they have done, and in a fairly significant way. Like all of us, we realize that the way the Watchtower describes apostates is not a fair representation.

  It would be safe to say that they refer to themselves as Jehovah’s Witnesses and the new organization JW.org as the apostates.JW.org has been the ones to change, not them.

  As far as the comments on confidentiality and how it would not be possible to keep such a thing under wraps….in my day (did I just say that???) an elder or servant would keep all matters confidential. So these old timers, could continue to do the same. No different. They haven’t changed their stripes.

  I would bet there are many others across the nation who are of the same view, only in smaller groups. A few weeks ago, there was a poster that got lambasted on this site because he felt that he and his family and a few others were acting as a true Christian within the realm of JW.org, but didn’t agree with the changes.

  that was a quote from a dyed in the wool jw recently.

  it was a complaint.. we all know that with 'new light(tm)' that the watchtower corporation's version of 'religion' has kept changing for a long time.

  since i remember.....and i go back a long way too.

  It used to cause a stir if the brothers wore a YHWH label pin or it was put on licence plates. It was taking the name of the Lord too casually and they were counciled. Now they don't even proclaim it in that way, it's shortened to jw.org.

  of course, most of us realize this.

  however sometimes even on this board sometimes threads have stated that the jw elders have been occasionally painted as the " fall guys " who take the rap for the wt society leaders - which of course is true - to a degree.

  however- that being said , many times elders have failed to protect - or even have failed to advocate for child abuse victims when it has been within their power to do so.

  woody harrelson and mathew mcconaughey { standing at the back of the k..h..during a meeting }.

  w.h.. "what do you know about these people " { who get their higher education reading and studying the watchtower and awake magazines} ?.

  "just observation and deduction , i see propensity for obesity , poverty, a yen for fairy tales , folks putting what few bucks they do have into contribution boxes .. i think it`s safe to say that nobody here is going to be splitting the atom.

  Similarities between the Governing Body and an abusive spouse

  i was looking at a list of methods used by abusive spouses to manipulate and control their "domain" and was struck by how similar the mentality is to the governing body's approach to the flock.

  obviously not everything on the list applies as there is no sexual component in the congregation and there is no physical contact, but the similarities were shocking.. http://www.helpguide.org/articles/abuse/domestic-violence-and-abuse.htm.

  Absolutely! And we were like the abuse victim....first accepting the blame for the abuse...returning for more...taking our lumps...knowing something is wrong, but thinking it was us....until one day the lightbulb goes off and we say: ENOUGH!!!!!!! Same pattern. I heard that a victim returns to an abusive situation around 7 or 8 times before they finally leave for good. It seems that the way the indoctrination is carried out that it looks for those timid, worn 'sheeplike' ones to bring in to dominate them. Thanks for starting this thread.

  i have some updates and new information on the downsizing in bethel.

  25% of all bethelites around the world will be sent home.

  in the us over 1,000 will be sent home.

  I guess if they start sending people home, there will be more square footage for the remaining. Maybe instead of 2 bedrooms and two living rooms, each GB will get their own entire floor in the complex! it would go nice with the Rolex watches!

  yesterday jw knocked on my door, i was sitting in the office with the window right next to it, they couldn't see me & i decided not to answer.

  they stood there for what seemed ages & as i watched something hit me.

  they were here only because they were on the territory.

  Well, with the new counting time arrangement, they can legitimately count their time as good works. Just wondering if they made the change in counting time because they know their publisher hours will continue to decrease and they needed to boost their volunteer numbers to keep their tax status. Surely with all the overspending and lawsuits they need to be tax exempt. If not they are screwed.
