Poster country flags and privacy

the new forum originally had a little country flag next to each post showing the country that the post was made from based on the geoip encoding (the country the ip address is from).

before i switched over to the new site someone made an issue about it violating their privacy and i didn't want to complicate and confuse the switchover with policy debate at the same time as technical issues so removed the flags even though i disagreed.. someone has already requested it as a feature and i think it should be added back so i thought it's now time to open the discussion and get everyone's opinions.

As I've said above, a flag is not "displaying people's information". It is a trait that someone has that is shared by millions of others and in no way identifies them.

As JWs form a small part of the population whilst it may be true that there will be millions of people who share a certain nationality it won't ever be true that millions of JWs share that trait of a single nationality. I just looked at the 2012 YB on jw.org and for example there are 7 witnesses in Norfolk Island.

It is good practice in surveys for example to anonymise (the spelling of that probably gave my own country away) the results by grouping where the numbers are very small in order to protect people.

The pain caused to many by being disfellowshipped is immense and in the rare circumstance that a person's nationality gives them away it may cause irreparable damage to their families and relationships.

Could be one reason why they stopped the mideweek book study. This leaves the hall open to be shared by 4 congregations more easily.

If I was still in and a hall I worked on and donated to was being sold and the money sent to the society I would be most unhappy.

This was a sign that Christendom was goiung downhill, they had to sell their churches.

They local people are so gullible

Before I spotted the beggar that everyone focused on it struck me that the younger witness was wearing some sort of hoody, certainly not dress I would have ever seen while witnessing and seems to be on a mobile phone.

Granted I can't see the phone and he may be reading a publication intently, but that certainly looks like someone on a phone and not interested in the public at all.

To give him credit I would have been mortified if I had to stand there with that cart.

The organisation has completely lost its way as far as I can see. They think they are the centre of God's plans but in fact are entirely irrelevant.

President not on governing body

been out since about 1999. i was surprised to just read that the current president (adams) is not on the governing body.

what happened there?.

obviously prior to that the president was in charge not just of the adminstration but also seemed to be heavily involved in defining doctrine.. the president seems to have really taken a back seat.. i know this must be old news, but just showed how much i am out of touch.

I know this must be old news, but just showed how much I am out of touch. I guess it's true, "I have not been keeping up with Jehovah's chariot"

Hard time coping with shunning

it's almost 1am and i can't sleep...again.

i hate to think the organization is still taking my sleep from me 16 years later but i can't help it.

i run a page on social media for ex jw support and advice and i'm usually there helping others but it definitely takes a toll on me when i'm having to argue and disprove jws that troll my page.

There seems to be a pattern where family who choose not to shun have suddenly started to. I was DF'd 15 years ago and my mother spoke to me until 18 moinths ago and suddenly stopped dead. She imagines that it will make me change my mind, but like Donny it has turned me further against them and I can only see the cruel cult that is totally man made since then.

I will never return and am so angry that mother is so gullible and such a bad decision maker in her life. All she has done is reinforce my view that you will know them by their fruits.

She has wasted the best part of her life for nothing and has lived though decades of broken promises but still clings on to every word and is more fanatical and dedicated than she ever was.

I always thought even after I left that they weren't a cult and they weren't brainwashed, but I was wrong on both counts. I was balanced and could see the positives and negatives. There are no positives left to see!

Yes, attended a few congregations over the last 30 odd years, stopped going about 13 years ago. Mainly mid Cornwall. My name probably gives away my feelings, don't really want to reveal myself but PM me if you wish.

Never had a PM so not sure what happens and whether I will spot it instantly. I mainly read rather then post so don't often log in so if I delay in responding to a PM please don't take it personally.

One language in the new system

so at the convention, one of the talks was about how all people will speak a single language in the new system.

my ears perked up when i heard at the outset "now, we can't be dogmatic about this" because that immediately makes me think that they're backing away from a previously dogmatic stance.

he went on to say that everyone will be speaking hebrew in the new system because "evidently" (another word that gets my ears to perk up these days) that was what was spoken before the languages were confused at bable.

psychology class is teaching me so much.

it's a core class, as i want to study medicine or biochemistry eventually.

we were assigned to read about obedience.

Without a doubt. They only don't do it because it is illegal. If they were the ruling power they would remove their enemies without any issue, probably make you bloodguilty if you didn't kill an offendor.

Example of people killing because they feel someone has broken their religious or social rules exist today in other religions, just google honour killing for examples.
