I think they take applying that particular bit of scripture TOO far!

the scripture is "cautious as serpents" not cunning. That is a very different meaning. Snakes are cautious by nature, avoiding trouble when ever possible, they will flee from danger instead of confronting it if possible or when threatened only give signs of defense or potential attack.

All of these meanings is what the scripture is meant to convey to Christians.

Nothing like having outsiders butting into your personal business during a difficult time. Bunch of self-righteous idiots. How was it necessary for them to be hanging around observing and bugging you while you packed up? Why would any reasonable person think that that was the best time to try to find out your "heart condition" or to try to get you to admit that you don't believe their crap any more? I hope that moron elder felt like a real jerk standing there in the corner.

You can't trust JWs...especially when they suspect that you aren't one of them any more.

We had also agreed that we would have a 3rd party present in case there was any kind of disagreement, a JW neighbor from down the street. I called Friday to confirm the arrangements, everything was still a go. However when I got to the house, instead of the neighbor there was a husband and wife present instead. No explanation from my (wife) as to why the change in plan.
...this guy starts telling me how we should proceed. After the second incident, I told him he needed to back off.
...we agreed that I would stop by today to pick up the van we had loaded up...I show up at the agreed-upon time, shortly thereafter, (surprise!) this couple shows up again, this time of course in their meeting clothes. I am packing all my Watchtower-related literature, so rude guy asks me why I would want the literature. I told him , its my stuff, I want it. Of course he persisted, now revealing that he is an elder, and he is curious about whether I still considered myself a dub.
...He kept trying to pin me down on whether I was still a witness, and I kept telling him I wasn't going to answer any of his questions. It was pretty funny, one of his first comments was that he could see my attitude, since I had a beard!!! When I went to leave, I asked for his name, which he had told me yesterday. He said his name was Eric, I asked his last name, he wouldn't tell me.
So basically some guy I don't even know, won't give me his name, was able with the help of my wife, to confront me in what was my house and ask me a lot of personal questions about my life and my marriage, making it fairly clear that this was my last chance to get back in good with Jehovah.

Coulda just cold-cocked the sunuvabitch. If the idiot had the balls to call the cops, tell em that he was trespassing, he wouldn't ID himself and he refused to leave.

Fortunate for me, I have several friends in law enforcement. I would have brought one with me to help and to be able to testify what I took. You are not obligated to answer personal questions. Silence is good; it may be hard but it is a good skill to develop.

Privacy laws are getting tougher.

Sorry to hear they've got you in their sights, man. That sucks. It would be different if they were willing to just ignore you. But since they are willing to go to such abominable extremes to "get you", you gotta wonder what's next. Maybe if you continue to give them the silent treatment, they'll get bored and move on.

What a dumb-ass that elder is! Didn't Jesus most likely have a beard? Seems like they'd require the wearing of them, rather than taking it for a display of bad attitude, lol! I'm guessing you couldn't charge Elder Dumbutt with trespass if he was there at the invitation of the other party, but next time, why not have a friend of your own be there to support you? It's a sinister and evil religion that puts up your spouse to be disloyal and betray you like that!
