I heard that my great grandmother was some sort of Eastern Star thingamummy. The grandparents didn't talk about it all that much cuz it was....shhhhhhhh...a secret. Really, I was too little to know what the heck it all was anyway.
I guess my great grandmother, my great step-grandmother, great grandfather and great uncle, grandfather and grandmother were all involved in Mason/Shriner junk. My father must have gone to one of their special ceremonies because he will sometimes talk about it....actually, he mostly talks about their funky dress-up costumes (the women back then wore some sort of I Dream of Jeannie get-up complete with turbans, not sure what they wear these days).
No special brownie recipe has been passed down, although, they sound like a fitting dessert for one of their big nutball ceremonies.
