I am sorry I have to say this....I find it very stupid when a guy gets all weird about their wife or girlfriend going to a male Gynecologist...I mean give me a god damn break. Here think about this. You are in a car accident you are being taken into the hospital you are in serious need of medical assistance. As you are going in ....

Do you ask for a certain Doctor? Do you say no peeking? Do you say "I would be more comfortable since you have to take all my wife's clothes off if the Doctors were women"....Nope!

Also, I find it appalling to think of it as a wonderful job. Is it because they deliver babies?(hoping) Or, is it because you get to touch women? (sick) Getting checked on is no fun for us...However, we have to do it because of our health and preventing Cancer. I don't care if it is a Male or Female. If He or She can help me prevent cancer then I am going to do it. The bonus is having a good Doctor.

When you have to turn your head and cough think of this...Male or Female? Either way you don't want to do it! Plus, I am sure your wife dosen't care who is doing it as long it is not her.

    Josie,

Hey if they can invent diaper wipe warmers why cant they invent speculum warmers? Maybe I should invent one.

My doc puts the speculum in warm water before my exam. NONE of my female doctors I've ever had did that. Also...he talks me through my exam...

"I'll touch the inside of your leg, so you know exactly when I enter."

"I'm checking your cervix, so this might twinge a bit."

Although some women may not necessarily appreciate the commentary, I do. I like knowing exactly what he's doing. I'm fascinated by the human body and might even enjoy my exam more if I had a mirror above the doc's head. Not sexually of course, but I wanna see what he sees.

I think any guy that demands his girl go to a female doctor, needs to have his head examined. Or he needs to be dumped. That's major insecurity talking. What else does he want to control in my life???

I've never been to one either... I'm too scared/intimidated by the whole process..... I've entertained the thought of going but just can't bring myself to do it....

!! miss peaches that's a big no no!! you need to go. don't ever mess with your health like that. I know that it's uncomfortable. Talk with the examining doctor and let him/her know that you are frightened a little. A lot of doctors are really great about this. My first exam, at age 14, was with an older male doctor. He was so sweet! After the first visits I felt better about the whole process and now it's become the yearly routine for me no problem whatsoever. As far as male or female preference, so far I have had no issues with female doctors, but 2 male doctors that I have had in the past were really bad. It doesn't matter much to me.

I guess I don't mind one way or the other which doctor I get. Having my junk looked at or squeezed by either sex isn't very "sexy" in my opinion.

Usually im ok with that kind of stuff, but if i have the option i go woman

I doesn't really matter to me. I see a female doc now for my exam, and have refused to go back to the male gyno because I think he's an ass. No people skills what so ever.

MissPeaches sweetie you really need to go already. It's not that bad at all, just a little embarassing if you are shy. You should have a least one normal pap in your med file to have it to compare if you have an abnormal one. With so many female cancers not having a lot of visible early warning signs, it's especially important to do so. Please go.

Just to add a little irony to the mix, this was just reported today from a radio news source that I follow. Micheal Savage out of San Francisco.

SEATTLE (Reuters) - A jury convicted a Seattle-area gynecologist on Wednesday of four counts of rape in the sexual assaults of two patients.

Charles Momah, 49, also faces civil lawsuits in which women claim that they were also sometimes deceived into being examined, operated on and sexually fondled by his twin, Dennis Momah, a general practitioner who is not certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

During Charles Momah's criminal trial, prosecutors said he sexually preyed on vulnerable, desperate women, many of whom had few other places to get gynecological care or were addicted to drugs.

In the trial, Momah testified that he did have sexual relations with two women in his practice but said the relationships were consensual.

He faces up to 16 years in prison after his conviction by a jury in King County Superior Court.

In the trial, attorneys for Momah asserted the women testifying against him weren't credible, saying one sought drugs from him and another extorted him.

Momah operated practices in the suburban cities of Federal Way and Burien, south of Seattle. The state Board of Health suspended his license in September 2003 after one patient, a main witness in his current criminal trial, reported that he raped her.

In the civil cases due to go to trial by the end of the year, the women assert that the two brothers, who are U.S. citizens born in Nigeria, sometimes switched identities and assaulted them.

On some occasions the doctor they believed to be Charles Momah was jovial and talkative with little accent. He bore certain scars and other physical characteristics.

On other visits, the man they thought was their doctor stuttered, had a heavy accent, and even appeared to be a different weight, the women claim. Neither Momah nor his brother could be contacted for comment.

I know... I know I need to go and get it down... It's just horrible. How do you explain to a doctor that your 30 years old and too scared to get it done. I have to and I will. I just have to work up the courage... I'm so embarrassed about the WHOLE situation. Its really horrible...

My gynecologist for many years was a man, and I loved him. He saved both my life and the life of my baby 26 years ago, so he has a special place in my heart. When he retired he sold his practice to a woman. I really like her very much. She is about my age and has "been there" so she is great too. But, male or female makes no difference to me.

Hey if they can invent diaper wipe warmers why cant they invent speculum warmers? Maybe I should invent one.

Both of the doctors I've gone to, keep the speculum in a heating pad. Very nice.
