This past week the news reported that the city of Montreal will be demanding better wood burning stoves because the present stoves are emitting to much pollution. Getting better?

Let me say during my growing up days, it was news to hear a child dying in my community, today, its no news.

If you think things are getting better,so be it. Everyone is entitled to their views and opinions. As I said to one poster in the past, if you think Donald Duck or Bugs Bunny is your God, so be it.

That is such small-minded line of reasoning. That sounds like a news story a JW would use in a piblic talk. Forget the fact that once they switch to better wood-burning stoves it WILL get better. Air pollution is getting better in many parts of the world - and now in MOntreal it will be getting better too.

There are always things that need work - but to throw your hands up and give up and say you are gonna wait on the Watchtower's Jehovah to fix things is infantile reasoning - not to mention a weak defeatist attitude.

The arguments you are giving are textbook mythical arguments.

Because that is the case in your area, does that mean it is the case EVERYWHERE?

Are you sure you are not confusing LOCAL deaths of children with deaths of other children you might hear about in the national or world news?

Are you sure you aren't lumping local and national and world news casualties into one big group and saying that you hear about a child dying all the time?

I bet Montreal is alot larger than when you were a kid. Perhaps there are more children in Montreal that die because THERE ARE MORE CHILDREN IN MONTREAL!

    Geez man ...

ithinkisee, you took the words right out of my mouth. In the 1800's NOBODY was talking about air quality. In the 1800's there was CHILD LABOUR in the coal mines. We CARE about these things these days.

JT, thanks for visiting the post. One correction, though. I am a regular Christian, believer all the way. I just don't buy in to the "World is steadily worse" game any more.

ithinkisee, I guess my age compared to yours is also mythical! As I said, in the closing of my post, if people think Donald Duck or Bugs Bunny is God, so be it.

I have a wood burning and its presently on, how about yours? The story I shared was on the evening TV news, the news also reported that if your caught leave your car idleing for 3 minutes you can be fined from $50.00 to $450.00! Why? Air pollution.

Golf, in my part of Canada we still have "peace and security". I remember unlocked doors and running barefoot through the suburb with my friends, unsupervised.

I am suggesting that even your lifetime and your local perspective is not broad enough to declare that the world is getting worse.

Speaking of children dying....In my county in NY we hear of child abuse all the time , mostly done by drug induced parents. The one case I can think of is where the parents of two little boys left them (forgot about them) in a tub with hot water running for a bath while they slept in a drug induced coma. The boys died a terrible death. Have you heard about that? 30 years ago there was child abuse but it was NOT as common as today.

We currently leave our house unlocked all the time. We also leave our cars in the driveway unlocked and often I leave my wallet in the console of my car overnight. Sometimes the keys are still in the ignition from moving it around the driveway.

jgnat, we lived with unlock doors. I 've also said, neighbors 'helped' each other. Name me a community where people help each other. The community I'm referring to are mostly related. This community is still related but no longer as helpful.

One of the countries that impressed me was Sri Lanka, tell me, what are the prevailing conditions there today?

Ithinkisee, I'm referring to a community not isolated or individual cases. This was once upon a time, not anymore.

My point being is, today we have locks, alarm systems, watch dogs and video cameras, why? If we truly trust each other why all the safety protective features?

When I went to school...smoking was the worst thing a student could do on the school grounds. Today it is guns and knives and drugs of all sorts on the school grounds and inside the school.
