Jesus was baptized in the 15th year of Tiberius's reign(AD 29) when he was about 30.

That means he was born about 1/2 BC!

"That means he was born about 1/2 BC!"

Nah. It was 6/7 a couple of years before herod's death(4bc)

If he was baptised ABOUT 30 years, then he was born ABOUT 1/2BC BTW do you know that there is no 0 year... so you can -1 more Year And knowing that Herod died 4BC I would suggest that Jesus was born 5-3 BC :)

Gumbers, ya silly bugger, what are you doing up at this time of day???

There's discrepancy as to when Jesus was born but it certainly wasn't in 1/2 B.C. First, we know that Jesus was born towards the end of Herod’s reign, and we know that Herod died after a lunar eclipse in 4 BCE. And we can ascertain that Jesus could have been about two years old at that time, which means He was born between 4 BCE - 6 BCE. However, Luke records that Jesus was born during the census of Quirinius which, according to Josephus, took place in 6 CE. That means there’s at least a ten year gap between the two stories which simply cannot be bridged and no scholar has yet to come up with a viable reason as to the discrepancy in these dates.

Hey Gumby, are you really awake now?

Just to make things more explicit, I would slightly modify Mary's excellent post this way:

Iow, even assuming that the Gospels significantly reflect the life of a historical 1st-century character, we really have no idea when he was born.

Narkissos you are right now No matter how you look at the Gospels if you take them all together and not leave one, or the other out, as so many PM's I have recieved, and links I have recieved, on the thread posted a few day's ago, not one link dealt with all the different problems. You can only asume that there is no way to know when Jesus was born becasue the bible is not correct between it's pages there is at least ten years difference in the biblical dates perod, all the aurguing you want to do people will never do away with this fact, THE BIBLE IS NOT IN HARMONY ON JESUS TIME OF BIRTH
