The Dangers of Pride and a Rebellious Attitude rs p. 391§1-2

Here is what the information says...

Reacting to situations on the basis of pride

It was Satan who first allowed an overestimation of self to corrupt his heart. (Compare Ezekiel 28:17; Proverbs 16:5.) Pride is a divisive force in the world of which he is ruler, causing people to consider themselves better than those of other races, nations, language groups, and economic status. Even those serving God may need to root out remnants of such feelings. They also need to be on guard so that pride does not cause them to make major issues of minor matters, or become a barrier to their acknowledging their own faults and accepting counsel and thus benefiting from much loving help that Jehovah provides through his organization.—Rom. 12:3; 1 Pet. 5:5.

Manifesting a rebellious attitude toward authority

Rebellion began with Satan, whose name means “Resister.” By his defiance of Jehovah, Nimrod, whose name may mean “Let Us Rebel,” demonstrated that he was a child of Satan. Avoiding that spirit will prevent God-fearing persons from becoming defiant of secular rulers (Rom. 13:1); it will help minors to submit to the God-given authority of their parents (Col. 3:20); it will be a safeguard against sympathizing with apostates, who disrespect those whom Jehovah has entrusted with responsibility in his visible organization.—Jude 11; Heb. 13:17.

I can't give this talk, if I get up there to give it I will focus on everything but the information. I haven't given a real talk in months, how did this happen? Fading is such a pain, help me out guys! Give me some ideas on what I can do with this situation. Thanks.

You could develop that it is a rebellious attitude toward PROPER authority, showing how Jess did not let the religious leaders tell him that he couldn't heal on the sabbath. Of course, he did it tactfully with a view to making them think.

You could also bring out how Christians are to recognize the authority of humans in a relative way, i.e., superior authorities.

    Drwe-can't type, DREW

Don't you already have plans to be out of town that weekend? I thought you were coming to visit me?? LOL

How bad do you want to leave? You could give the talk "their" way till the last 10 minutes. Then slip in a few "new lights", and walk out the door. Go out in style!

Do you think there's any chance they gave that subject to you deliberately? As kind of an oblique way of "counseling" you? bleh.

My first idea was to do what blodie suggested, it seems like the only way to go if I don't decide to take a last minute trip. I actually thought about starting the talk off my mentioning the "rebellious" additude of Martain Luther and how his reflection on Romans 1:17 "The just shall live by faith" prompted him stop climbling the "holy" steps in a Catholic Cathedrial and begin his refromation. Keep the ideas coming guys.

I really don't think they feel that i'm being rebellious, I can count the number of times I've actually talked to and Elder in the past year on one hand. Mabyee the Lord is giving me a push :)

    Piece of cake Drew!
You know the dog and pony show that is expected for that topic. They'll really want you to blast apostates and warn of the dangers developing apostates pride if one has anything to do with them. All you have to know is which way the wind is blowing in order to give a talk that will have the elders drooling with pleasure.
I could do that talk if it was given to me right after I walked in the hall for the meeting!

Yeah, that's it! And using the Proclaimers book™ and other Watchtower literature you can denounce the Watchtower society as the foremost apostate of the twentieth century.

I would start out with the definitions of what rebellion and pride are, our use synonyms of both of those words. ie. pride - arrogance, conceit, smugness and self importance to name a few. rebellion - revolt, uprising, insurgance, upheaval, mutiny, revolution and rising and then possibly end the talk with antonyms to show the difference our attitude can have by doing away with pride and rebellion.
