They also need to be on guard so that pride does not cause them to make major issues of minor matters great strides and accomplishments that result in personal fulfillment,

Make this subtle change and see if you get away with it!!!

I haven't given a real talk in months, how did this happen?

Go with what Lo-ru-hamah suggested: fill it in with piles of stuff from the dictionary and thesaurus. Just give your intro and "run the clock out".

I can't give this talk, if I get up there to give it I will focus on everything but the information. I haven't given a real talk in months, how did this happen? Fading is such a pain, help me out guys! Give me some ideas on what I can do with this situation. Thanks.

Awe shucks Drew I feel for you! I couldn't do it myself and not just because I'm a woman and woudn't be given that assignment but in my fading days I was conviently too ill to give my talks or be a householder or to attend any meetings or go in field service for six months this went on and no questioning from any of the Elder's as to my poor health conditions. I guess it was my one and next to last attendance to the Memorial where I appeared in perfect health and came in late left as soon as the event was over minimal contact with the cult worked well for me!

My only suggestion short of being to sick to give the assignment is maybe if you are ready do what Little Toe did here:

I know this is a biggy and no one here would blame you if you didn't go that route, but I personally think it's a classy way to make your final exit.

Good luck on whatever you choose to do and I would like to know what you do I hope you post either your talk or your final decision. Oh and fwiw I love blondie's suggestions some well placed words can do much to the "thinking/doubting" JW. You could really have some fun with this!

Expanding on the above: don't stop there, grab the Strong's Concordance and give all the Greek and Hebrew words used for pride.

    This will fit in quite well;

but if you start using filler material from the local phone book, they will suspect something.

    OR...

you could talk about recognizing proper authority (a la Blondie) by reporting sexual abuse of children to Ceasar's authority (the POLICE) when it occurs in the congregation.

Hey, I'm busy at work right now writing an outline/manuscript for "chairing" a meeting for which I don't/won't have all of the database analysis done by tomorrow. I figure I'll get the "audience" rolling with it and make up the slack with "audience participation". I'm gonna turn it into a Q & A session.

Unfortunately, you won't have that luxury.

And the new guy is busy hovering over my shoulder trying to see what I'm going to do so he can copy it for the meeting he has to chair.

Gotta hand it to the TMS: they give you some skill sets. If you can BS and "wing it", the basics from the old QM (Qualifed to be Ministers) will take care of the rest.

I'm gonna have mercy on "junior" and give him my outline at the last minute

I suspect you could get away with this: just tell them that you had "writers block" while doing your research. It happens to the best/all of us.

""Manifesting a rebellious attitude toward authority""

My theme would surround around the word "Authority"

You could do like the wt does....just ask a few simple questions, without giving any answers, ..let the listener answer on his own.

For example:Who do you view as an authority figure? Is Satan an authority? Who did Jehovah give authority to? answer this one with Jesus and push the fact that JESUS has the authority, ....I would not even bring out the wt org.

Reacting to situations on the basis of pride

Use the first paragraph and just make a few changes to it. -

Pride is a divisive force in the world, causing people to consider themselves better than those of other races, nations, religions, language groups, and economic status. Even those serving God may need to root out remnants of such feelings. We need to be on guard so that pride does not cause us to make major issues of minor matters, or become a barrier to our acknowledging our own faults and accepting counsel and thus benefiting from much loving help that Jehovah provides through the Scriptures.—Rom. 12:3; 1 Pet. 5:5.

Then I would suggest having them internalizing it. I would say something like- “Are we too full of pride? Do we think we are always right? Can we be wrong? The Jews were Jehovah’s chosen people, they had his blessings. They followed the law and listened to their religious leaders. They followed them, believed what they taught, and conducted themselves accordingly. Then they lost his favor, even though they were loyal to the organization.-This last sentence my be too strong.

Manifesting a rebellious attitude toward authority

This next paragraph I would not use as it is written so matter of factly. -
Rebellion began with Satan, whose name means “Resister.” By his defiance of Jehovah, Nimrod, whose name may mean “Let Us Rebel,” demonstrated that he was a child of Satan. Avoiding that spirit will prevent God-fearing persons from becoming defiant of secular rulers (Rom. 13:1); it will help minors to submit to the God-given authority of their parents (Col. 3:20); it will be a safeguard against sympathizing with apostates, who disrespect those whom Jehovah has entrusted with responsibility in his visible organization.—Jude 11; Heb. 13:17.

I would answer it though, and again have them internalize it. “When we have a rebellious attitude it can be very easy to become defiant of secular rulers. How many of us have gotten a ticket and were angry with the police? Question, is disagreement the same as rebellion? We have to be careful that we don’t become too prideful in that we accuse someone with having a rebellious attitude because they don’t agree with us.”

I know there is a lot more to be said but I believe that if you take that approach they can’t really “get you” for saying something wrong, and you just might plant a few seeds.

    LOL
