Just maybe this self moderating thing will work. I hope so.

I was thinking about how much this place is like a classroom in school(junior/high) anyway, and some college level as well.

Remember when your teacher would leave the room? The bullies and loud mouths, would always take the floor. All hell broke loose. When the teacher reappeared all was quiet. Even the substitue teacher(appointed moderators) couldn't keep the lid on. It will be everyone's loss if Simon is required to carry a 'long ruler' of discipline here. Once the teacher exercises the penalty, he has to keep adminstering 'the rod'. That's the catch....I hope we all rise up and do the dirty work for the PROF. Iam sure that is what Simon desires.

Today's episode of craziness from Kent is a sad example of how self-moderation does not work if there are some who refuse to co-operate with Simon's suggestions of civility towards all.

I agree with larc, in that the time when we could talk about ourselves without fear of it being used against us has now long gone. It was a more gentle time, when encouragement and healing took place.

These days, this DB has become a place of abuse and nastiness. I'm starting to dread logging into this site, with the thought of "now what's going on?"

I don't like coming here anymore.

When those "naughty words" are said in a manner designed to hurt and offend, out of nastiness and pure spite, then they certainly are far worse than a woman who says she acts and speaks with holy spirit.

It is the intent of those words that are offensive, not just the words themselves.

This is your site Simon, you should do what you think is right and do what you want. I think YOU'RE doing a wonderful job.

Thanks. It's always good to know who in the crowd thinks it's their calling to keep everybody else in line and punish those who don't conform. Also good to know what extremes such a person might go to in meting out punishment.

for this one I do agree with Prisca's words:
