Uh, in my own 'defense', Abaddon, dear one (and may you have peace) your are entirely in error when you say:

and fully expects the VAST majority of us to be DESTROYED by her Jah of Armies

I do NOT think expect such a thing, THINK such a thing... or wish such a thing. That is WTBTS BS rhetoric... and I don't ascribe to it.

Please, if you're gonna jump on the 'slander Shelby' bandwagon, at least be 'accurate'. My Lord KNOWS, none of the rest are.

My peace remains, and I am,

YOUR servant and a slave of Christ,

Friday's banning is hypocrisy at its finest.

I think we are harder on Christian fundamentals and those who claim they are Witnesses and persist in their non-sense. If Kent was either, he would have IMO been banned long ago.

People who are well liked get away with more than people who are not.

Either way, if you don't care for Friday, or Kent or whoever, don't read what they have to say. Let them have their say, choose whether you want to read it.

I am speaking for myself - I don't think the banning of anyone is the solution.

The solution is to allow others to exist without strong insults, crudity, gross language. If a bully appears - and without any moderation - and they will, then it is an option for others to speak up and ask strongly - again & again - for them to stop hurting other people.

I believe that's even called adult behaviour. To turn away and do nothing everytime is to allow it to escalate - or deteriorate to a sewer. Perhaps some of us prefer this style - that's not the issue.

Imho, the issue is that this is an open forum - and basic manners should be used, for the benefit of all posters - just like in our real life.

    Waiting,

You are speaking for more than just yourself.

Well said. In real life many of these nasty mouthed, 'say it like it is' kinda guys, would find themselves face down in the dirt, for this kind of conduct.

Really takes little if any common sense to figure this out.

I think the watchtower spies at head office must be rubbin their hands with glee.

    Spider,

Why would the watchtower spies at head office be rubbin their hands with glee?

I'll defend your right to say it, but it doesn't mean I beleive it.

May I offer a suggestion? Apparently Kent has said some things recently that has caused msil, Prisca and others some offense. I say 'apparently' because I haven't read anything by Kent recently. See, isn't that simple? I haven't read Kent's words, and so I haven't been offended.

    Try it.

Waiting, I think you summed things up beautifully (as you usually do). We are all adults here, and occasionally things will get out of hand. When that occurs, we can either just wait for the storm to blow over, or, if we find a certain thing personally offensive, request (as many times as needed) that it stop.

Simon, IMO, has been trying to keep this board open and available for free discussion. He has asked us in the past to moderate ourselves. We have been pretty successful overall, and I would hate to see this forum become one that is heavily moderated.

I think the org must be happy when it sees internal conflict amongst the ex-jw community. If we conform to the stereotype they have created for us then it makes their job easier. It also makes us weaker as we fight with ourselves and do not create a place where lurkers can feel confortable being in.
I also think it is ironic that after coming from a totalitarian religion some are talking about creating censorship.Didn't we just come from there? Isn't that why we left?
I would like this forum to be a welcoming place that would be a comfort and a solace to any person wishing help and encouragement while making that difficult exit.
I don't think they should have to see all the crap and rivalry and personnal attacks but neither would I like to think it is being deleted.
Here is my solution.Rather than everyone automatically posting on the main forum, why not have a dedicated "new ones" forum where these will get the help they need.Or else a dedicated "hang on to you're hats" forum which can contain all the hard core material.
There are a lot of registered users now and they continue to increase.Perhaps the board would benefit from being broken up slightly.I guess what I am suggesting is a little like the H20 site.I know that probably has downsides but as the numbers increase so will the trouble and I think this would be one possible solution.

Self control means not continuing to read threads one finds offensive.
Self control means clicking off to another thread, not censoring anybody else.
It's really tough if some posts don't meet somebodys standards.
Self control means not whingeing and complaining if a poster doesn't 'do it your way'. How catastrophic.
Self control is understanding that the world just ain't gonna turn the way YOU want it too at times. How awful! How terrible!
Self control is using your personal power to make choices.Click on Click off-

Remember telling me to give it a rest? To move on? To leave a certain thread and find something else to talk about? One day soon, I'm going to remind you of these words of yours and simply tell you to click off... of course then, you'll come up with something equally 'profound.'

I think it is quite obvious to all just how different they are.

    You are right. It is.
