1. Is the president going to magically repeal the law of supply and demand?

2. What happens to oil company profits? They are reinvested in exploration, to produce more oil! Wow, what a concept! Does anyone remember the oil embargo of the 1970s? American companies explored like crazy with all the profits from the increased prices and oil dropped back down to $10 a barrel because of all the new supply. As profits increase, so do investments. If you want to prevent further exploration, go ahead and confiscate oil company profits.

I am not embarrassed except by some posters' apathy and gullability over this issue. We aren't JW's anymore. We have no excuse for being gullable.

I don't want to be unkind but you obviously know little about the true reasons the gas price increases and unfortunately they are, as has been repeated in this thread many times, supply and demand.... at the core.

As to gullability: do you realize that you cited the fact that several governors were signing this petition as an indicant that it might have some value?

When several governors of states here are suspicious of the big oil companies, then that is big news, Ballistic.

It is a fact...that the price of oil per barrel is not set by the "oil companies" either. Their "profit" is like any business...SET. Of course when looking at a rich oil company's annual "profit"...you don't see the front end "load"...the money they borrowed and spent YEARS ago to make the profit today.

Bush and his cronies were / are oilmen...so F'n what!!! They had money long before they got political...don't act like they got into politics to get richer... take a Social Psychology course to see why people get into politics...

The cost to produce gas, for the most part stays CONSTANT...and yes...the price of gas goes UP when the weather is good (more driving) and down when it's bad. Why don't you protest the high cost of NATURAL GAS? or ELECTRICITY or DOM PERIGNON? The taxes on gas are rediculous...and we in the US pay LOW compared to most nations... that's how socialists fund many of their "free" programs to their citizens... That's one reason the government isn't too keen on getting us off oil to quickly...it's their cash cow.

Hell if you want to attack a completely corrupt and ream you in the ass business....go after INSURANCE COMPANIES!!! I worked for a BIG one and they are literally "organized crime"... talk about a "snare and a racket"!!! The WTS is babyshit compared to these guys...

Really people...if you're gonna rant about a subject like this...you need to be a little more informed.....Sadly...this thread SOUND like WITNESSES and they're Awake enhanced view of "the world".....very shallow.

It's a ripe subject for sure...but the argument is WEAK!!!

It's okay FHN - I happen to agree that when a CEO of an oil company can rake in 700 million and another 300 million bonus from the profits - while the poor and middle class take the hit - well it's sad really. How many million can you possibly need to live on? I see no problem with a cap...and why not have the government fix it? sammieswife...just an opinion and not a debate -

This is nothing but a political stunt on the part of the Governor. Same thing goes for all parties complaining about high gas prices. Pure politics considering the crude oil market is a free market.
Although I agree that this governer's tactics are pure politics I would hardly say that the crude oil market is a "free market". Ever heard of OPEC?

Someone sent me an e-mail stating that everyone should refuse to buy gas from Exron and Chevron. That would force them to lower their prices, than the other companies would follow suit. Is that only wishful thinking?

I'm all for making whatever you can from your product or service. If you have some new software that people are dying for or the next "pet rock" and can make millions, go for it! However, what I'm starting to wonder is has big oil played a part in keeping America dependent on oil? We've seen this coming for almost 40 years yet no one in the government has put together any type of energy policy. Hell, Gore was Mr. Enviroment and he didn't do shi* when he had the power to do so. Has the oil lobby contributed to this major crisis? I'd like to know.

Also, I don't fault Bush's oil background but I do have to wonder if he has the vision to get America off of this addition. I mean, common, the Japanese spit out super high milege cars and our guys in Detroit can only kick out bigger and bigger SUV's? Where's the vision?
