I think u/d should start his own thread on how to run the world. Things I've discovered about him: he doesn't like spotted owls, polar bears, trees, environmental issues, doesn't care about the effect of high oil prices, doesn't like Muslims. I don't see any solutions offered by him on the many issues the average person is facing today.

He does however support Hooters and takes his family there regularly, because the food is sooooooooo good! He loves Bush so much that I think they might be related...cousin maybe???

u/d...I'm sure there is so much more to learn about you...can't wait to find out more!!! Love your attitude! Your concern for the little guy overwhelms me! I'm all teared up....

Have you decided you no longer care about global warming and polution?

I'd think you'd like high prices because people would use less of it thereby aiding in defeating the above.

Instead of asking the president to do something he isn't legally entitled to do (next question, did you decide not to worry about that constitutional stuff any more too?), why not just get on e-trade buy some stock and get in on the action?

It's so easy for the "have nots" to criticize the "haves"......they earned it fair and square.

Yeah right. I guess you can believe they didn't scheme, backstab, grease palms, lie, cheat....you can believe they 'earned' it fair and square if the illusion fills your world. A few maybe - certainly not all.

As for GM, Ford, or any other big company...I admire most of those I've met that worked on the lines because I've known them - men who travelled 4 hours a day to get to their factory jobs, hard working, loyal, honest, family men. Not just in factory jobs but in agriculture, hospitals, penal institutes, social services, nursing homes - but then I've also known many who rose to the top - not because of their qualifications but simply because of who they knew - what promises they made - how much money they had....it's not complaints or criticism but thats what I've seen - that's my reality.

Do I think celebrities are overpaid? You betcha! By a long shot! Sports heroes? Models? Dang right! I think it's ridiculous simply because I don't understand the need to acquire so much in the way of money and things. Kind of like a 50,000 sq foot house for 5 people - I don't see the point of it all. But that's me...and to each their own.

As I said - I'm not debating the issue because I've heard both sides for so long it all wears thin - what will be will be and in time, what must change - will. Just my HO. sw.

    Sounds like Bushisms....

So in order to help the situation with global warming, we have to outrageous gas prices??? There is no way to put a cap on oil prices and still care for the environmental issues?

The govenment can't pass laws to restrict pollution and then mandate that cars get better gas mileage...all at the same time? I know...it's just too much to ask of Bush,. as he can't chew gum and walk at the same time! Sorry for even thinking that he could!

Much as I love you FHN I can not sign. I think high gas prices are good -because thet are not high. Only by staying around 3$ per gallon will the boys in Detroit be encouraged to develop fuel efficient cars and Americans will be more likely to conserve. Also what is needed is some more drilling and serious research into alternatives

There is a difference between someone like Lebron James being paid millions of dollars a year to dribble a basketball and the CEO of Mobil-Exxon making millions of dollars a year in salary, stock options and bonus.

After haggling a contract is formed and Lebron James is paid my the owner of a team. The owner knows that there aren't a lot of people who can play like Lebron James, simple supply and demand. The owner also knows that if he produces a winning team (which is why he needs an individual like Lebron James) people will pay big bucks to by his product. It's a winning situation for everyone. Lebron makes big bucks for showing off his rare talent, the owner makes money on his investment and the people who CAN afford to buy the expensive tickets do so.

On the other had, things in the world of big business (esp. big oil) have gone out of control. Instead of having a board of directors that looks out for the interests of the shareholders (and to a certain extent the public trust) you have CEO's, like the one for Exxon-Mobil, who control the board of directors. They vote themsevles HUGE, unearned bonuses, ridiculous salaries and don't have any interest in being a "good citizen."

It doesn't come out of my pocket when Tom Cruise or Lebron James make millions of dollars a year for their talents. If I can't afford to see them, I won't buy a ticket. One the other had, when the CEO of Exxon-Mobil votes HIMSELF a $40 million bonus, it has to come from somewhere. That somewhere is higher gas prices, which affects the working class more then it affects the rich. I don't know what the government can do to stop this but it sure could have done more to stop America's addiction to oil. The again, each one of us could have to. How many of us bought an SUV or regular sedan instead of a Honda Insight or Toyota Prusis?

roybatty... you're assumptions and analyis are completely innaccurate! CEO's don't vote themselves raises and then raise their price to cover it...that's asinine. The bottom line is already figured into the cost of the goods or service...These are PROFITABLE companies...how they spend their money is nobody's damn business... (ie. Enron, WorldComm illegal activity...is a different story)

How would you like it if anyone tried to tell you how to, or not to spend your paycheck? I'd tell them to F*CK OFF!!!

Like an insurance company... their profit margin is FIXED into the cost of the service. If their actuaries are wrong and outgo exceeds income than they tap reserves and in the future raise rates (which are mandated and approved by the States)... They DON'T raise their rates to just make more money...that's rediculous and WRONG. The insurance company NEVER gets hurt as the profit is never touched... just like a casino!

How does a CEO not "earn" his money? Do JWD people read any "business" or "industry" journals...or are we still reading AWAKE?

I BEG you to take just one small course at a community college near you and open your eyes to the real world...not "the world".

Just cuz a company is BIG...doesn't mean it's bad....Just like just cuz a company is small doesn't make it good....

The private sector will come up with the solution...not the government.

I've always felt that changes will come from a grass roots reaction to being abused by the system. We have to try to make changes in our own attitudes and then changes in physical reality will follow. I have an old car, and I used 1/4 tank to get to work this week. My boyfriend was telling me this morning that the best time to buy gas is Wednesdays. I understand that CT is going to be hit with higher ethanol concentrations in it's gas supply..........haven't followed it totally, but supposedly it will result in higher gas prices for our state. Well, this Sunday AM I saw that regular unleaded is $3.05/gallon. Wow. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Terri, of the realizing that other nations have been paying steep prices for gas for alot longer than the US. BUT, we can cut our reliance on oil. There are many other options. We just need to be open to them. Also, we need to practice awareness in our daily energy usage, as a whole.

    Terri
