Husband invited the neighbors over for a Grill out.......

Now, I just make up everything as I cook. I never use a recipe. He says my cooking is so good and I have heard that alot from others.

How the hell do you make potato salad??????...I don't need someones recipe just the basic crap that goes into it.

    Help anyone?

    Basic crap for tater salad:

    • potatoes (genius Rach!)
    • eggs
    • mayo
    • green onion
    • Lawrey's salt
    • pepper

That's my no-fail (as well as no-measure) recipe. I don't cook from recipes either.

    German potato salad

    • 4 potatoes
    • 4 slices bacon
    • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
    • 2 tablespoons white sugar
    • 1/3 cup water
    • 1/4 cup white wine vinegar
    • 1/2 cup chopped green onions
    • salt and pepper to taste

    DIRECTIONS:

    1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes; cook until tender but still firm, about 15 minutes. Drain, cool and chop.
    2. Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain, crumble and set aside. Reserve bacon fat.
    3. Add the flour, sugar, water and vinegar to skillet and cook in reserved bacon fat over medium heat until dressing is thick.
    4. Add bacon, potatoes and green onions to skillet and stir until coated. Cook until heated and season with salt and pepper. Serve warm.

    Potato salad?

I use potatos (obviously) and add old cheddar cheese cut into small cubes, and a chopped onion. Garlic salt & pepper to taste. Dressing is a half and half mixture of miracle whip and sour cream mixed with parsley. If I'm bored I'll add some peas to it. Make sure they're not hot, or the cheese cubes will melt and you'll have a bloody mess.

I'd just bung some mayo on cold boiled potatoes with some fresh herbs, probably snipped chives or flat-leaf parsley. But merfi's suggestion sounds better.

Is eggs in potato salad a 'mercan thing?

OK, I think I got the basics....I may go nuts and try a few things and see if I can get them to love it or gag!

What do I care they are moving next weekend...lol.

    I like red potato salad.

3 1/2 to 4 pounds of red potatos cut into 1 inch wedges - skins left on

1 pound bacon, cooked crispy, and pat w/ paper towels to remove exess oil

1/2 cup fresh chives - chopped into fine pieces

    1 tbl. spicy mustard

    salt and pepper to taste

Boil until just soft then add, rinse with cold water and drain. Crumble bacon into little bits and add to potatos. Then mix with chives, mayo, mustard, salt and pepper. Coat well. Has a really good Gourmet taste but is easy to make. Tastes better after chilled a few hours

I also add a couple of diced up eggs

Edited to add: Oops, I forgot, salt and pepper to taste.
