The mentality of Fundamentalists however, despite this funny article is Fear.

It reminds of the Fear of the JWs on missing a meeting, or watching a horror movie, or buying second hand objects. Total superstition!

Firstly in case anyone doesn't know "Landover Baptist Church" website is a spoof site that makes fun of fundamentalist Christian ways.

As has been already pointed out it also made me laugh that Christians go on about "Harry Potter" yet will watch films like "Narnia." Also the "Lord of the Rings" is another one, that Christians say has "Christian" content so is ok to watch etc. They are all full of magic, witches and wizards etc, so whats the difference?

I had to laugh recently at my Pentecostal church we were having a baptism service. Some young ones were getting baptised ages from 13 to 16. They all gave their testimonies on how they accepted Christ etc. As one of them was giving his. I happen to look to were his parents were seated, I glanced down at the mothers bag, she had with her. And there on the top in full view was the latest Harry Potter book.

    Gill,

Stay away from fundamentalists! No but seriously, they sound like Jehovah's Witnesses with their totally crazy fears of evil. There is no way a kid got sick from reading or watching anything about magic, etc. And my kids have seen Narnia too and in the Lion, Witch, Wordrobe, the kids go into a MAGIC closet and come out the other side into a MAGIC land. And there is a WITCH in it for goodness sake! How crazy it is the way people try to rationalize things and read too much into it.

[thwacks Shazard upside the head] I'm a HUGE Harry Potter fan, as is my husband. The kids like it too, but we've really gotten into it because the books are so well written and J.K. Rowling puts all sorts of hidden clues to future events, which appeals to our mystery-solving brains.

Is she a witch? WHO CARES!!!! And I LOVE having the freedom to read what I want without fear of censure or disapproval. There are a few fundies in the neighborhood who won't let their kid read Harry Potter books, but I figure that's their choice and they don't try to impose their beliefs on us and we don't impose ours on them.

about the baptist church article, I would like to know where in the bible it recounts the early Christians taking up a protest against something they felt God did not approve of?

Our jobs as Christ's followers is to lead people to him. Those who want to be led to him that is, not try to convert those who have no interest in Christianity. What others do, we have no business getting involved it at all. And if they are claiming to be Christian also and their conscience does not bother them by reading a certain book or watching a certain film, who are we to judge them?

Just wanted to give my opinion.
