Is J K Rowling a Witch?

No, I haven't figured out what the Horcruxes are. As far as I', aware, they're the ring, the pendant, possibly Nagini, Tom Riddle's diary, the goblet, (was that Hufflepuff's), and something of Gryffindors possibly. I stand ready to be informed. Eager minds await furthur information!!

Yeah you've got it mostly. The diary and the ring have been destroyed. Hufflepuff's cup and Slytherin's locket are two others. BTW, Rowling gave us a clue as to where the locket is in "Order of the Phoenix". Did you catch it? Hint: RAB used to live there.

That leaves something of Gryffindor or something of Ravenclaw as the last one. Personally I believe the Ravenclaw object is the wand that sits in Ollivander's window. Remember? It was referneced only once in "Philospher's Stone". I believe that is why Ollivander is missing. I also believe that he was not kidnapped or murdered but is being hidden by the Order.

There is a theory that says that each House corresponds to the four elements: fire (Gryffindor), earth (Hufflepuff), air (Ravenclaw) and water (Slytherin). The theory goes on to say that each Horcrux is to be found in its element. The locket (Slytherin) was hidden in water. If true then the cup will be hidden or buried in earth (Riddle's graveyard? the caves under Gringotts?). Look for a connection between the Bones family and Hufflepuff's cup. Not sure what it is yet, but Voldemort has paid quite a lot of attention to the Bones family throughout the series and that along with their name makes me suspicious. If this theory is true, and I think there's something to it, then the fact that Ravenclaw's wand was suspended in mid-air in Ollivander's window is an excellent clue that it is a Horcrux.

Nagini might be the 6th Horcrux, in fact probably is (wouldn't it be a riot if Nagini turned out to be the snake Harry set free when he visited the zoo in "Philospher's Stone"?) but I think there is an 8th Horcrux. I think the last Horcrux is Harry's scar. I think this is why he has access to Voldemort's thoughts and feelings. I think this is the big surprise Rowling has in mind for the last book. That would make Harry the Gryffindor Horcrux.

One thing I really enjoy is solving mysteries and riddles. That and the way Rowling comes up with her names. Such as the way to enter the magical world is through Diagon Alley. To perceive her world you must change your perspective and look diagonally (Diagon Alley = diagonally). Or 12 Grimmauld Place. Grim Old Place. And then there are the running gags she has with the numbers 12 and 7, the color purple and socks. Kinda neat.

    Tex:

Haven't you missed a green stage between White and Red (assuming a five stage rather than seven stage process)?

I didn't know that. Now that's interesting. In her books, green is the color of death. I'm hopelessly clueless about alchemy though. I know only the barest scrap and that's not nearly enough.

I only knew about a 7 stage alchemical process toward enlightenment with black, white, red and then gold being the final result. So green fits in after white? Do you know what green is supposed to represent in alchemy? I'm interested if you do.

Do you have objections to watching HP?

    Sirona

Nope, none at all. When the movies first came out I just thought they were for kids. There's been a few on TV, I've seen bits and pieces of the first one, but just never had the time to sit down and watch the whole thing.

As kids we used to pretend we had magic wands and wave them around and say things like abrakadabra (sp?) etc. (Raised a JW)

I was just relating an explanation I had overheard. I was not part of the conversation and like I said, not having seen either movie (I know less about Narnia than HP) I could not comment on the validity of the statement to the person making it.

I don't think Nagini is a Horcrux and I think there are 7 Horcruxes, with Harry's scar being the last one. However, I do think there's a possibility that Nagini is the snake Harry set free -- that would be an interesting plot twist.

Rowling is a very talented author and the books are a lot of fun to read and re-read!

The following are the order of colours, dependant on which model you use:

    Model 3 / 4 / 5 / 7 _ Colour

    • 1 / 1 / 1 / 1 _ Black
    • 2 / 2 / 2 / 2 _ White
    • 0 / 0 / 3 / 3 _ Green
    • 0 / 0 / 0 / 4 _ Iridescence
    • 3 / 3 / 4 / 5 _ Red
    • 0 / 0 / 0 / 6 _ White
    • 0 / 4 / 5 / 7 _ Gold

(Hope the formatting works because it's too fiddly to edit)

The colours are variously applied to the various alchemical processes, elements (eg. Earth, Air, Water, Fire), animals, genders, and/or substances.

I think Harry / his scar is the last Horcrux, too. It's all too tidy, and will no doubt be the last one visited, to the horror of many junior fans, but that's show business

What really flays me is that the fundamentalist Christians are so scared of mere words, when always actions speak louder than words, and if they have been "saved" what is there to worry about, if there is not action? If God is the all-loving, all-knowing, all-forgiving presence that they say he is, then what are they afraid of? They are not invoking Satan or his power for malevolent purposes when they read a Harry Potter book, they are merely enjoying an adventurous escape into the fun and adventurous carefree Municipality of Magicality through reading. As far as I can see, there can be no hell-raising problem with this, as Jesus also used metaphors, and half the prophets had wild dreams: look at the Revelation! Those dudes were telling pretty wild tales of their dreams. If you read to your child from the Revelation, I'm sure that that will raise alot more fear than some Harry Potter book written by some lady from England.

Some of these folks are too serious.

The book titles certainly give a suggestion as to which of the processes are being considered, but they are nicely jumbled up to keep people guessing

    1. Socrerer's Stone
    2. Chamber of Secrets
    3. Prisoner of Azkaban
    4. Goblet of Fire -
    5. Order of the Phoenix
    6. Half-Blood Prince
    7. ???

That's very interesting Ross. Thanks. Although I'm not sure how the titles of the books (or at least some of them) have an alchemical bent. Can you help my single digit IQ?
