One of them was very aggressive in this, always reminding the dubs about the person that touched the ark of the covenent in an act of good will so that it wouldn't fall down while being transported but was nonetheless struck down by jehovah. The moral being that anyone trying to correct the FDS even out of good will would be severely punished by jehovah. The FDS are untouchable sacred cows in other words.

Ergo,no 1914 then there can be no 1918 inspection..... The central CORE doctrine of the Watchtower,yes the reason the Watchtower came into existence was to declare Jesus second coming in 1914.When the prophecy (derived from William Miller of 1842) failed they said that he came "invisibly".

Ergo,no 1914 then there can be no 1918 inspection and sealing of the 'anointed' so the entire wts doctrinal superstructure comes crashing down like a house of cards.

How can you say that your poor old aunts fear is something she is enjoying. She obviously is not enjoying it. People like that are held captive by their fears. I could agree with Danny though about it being a stockholm syndrome type thing. But I think you should pity your aunt if anything and others like her. The WT is purely EVIL because they clealy take advantage of people like your poor aunt. I feel bad for her especially since she is elderly. But it is clear, she is not enjoying this at all. Unfortunately no one has freed her mind yet of the false belief that the WT org. is God's mouthpiece. This is the thing I hate most about organized religion - the fear they put in people. I am going to pray for your poor aunt. I really hope she has peace one day.

Yep. I think this is a lot of the reason that the current JW population is 'unable to see the light.' They enjoy being victimized and emotionally raped.

I don't feel that people want to be victimized and emotionally raped.

I feel that most of the JWs who were not born into it like to have someone else be responsible for telling them what to do and think. It takes the responsibility off of them. For those born into the religion, they would continue on to keep that family together.

Of course there are exceptions.

A LOT of 'normal people' are intensely addicted to DRAMA. I believe that there is a subset of the population that doesn't feel good unless they are creating turmoil, or witnessing turmoil.

This is why people alternately DREAD and LOVE the visit of an otherwise idiot, the CO/DO. They are looking forward to the DRAMA. Surely something will happen! Not this time, either? That's ok, something DRAMATIC will happen. Surely he will make some bone-jarring announcement!

They hold their collective breath waiting for an utterance of importance out of the mouth of a failed janitor!

I think we may be hijacking the thread here, but i see where you're coming from and tend to agree. People can be addicted to all sorts of emotional turmoil, like 'love and heartbreak' for instance. JW's become conditioned to living in a climate of fear, as i was. The only way you can 'put up' with that is by accepting it. Whether 'putting up' with something is the same as 'getting a kick out of it', well that's a subject for debate, but how else can they be going through with this if there's not some kind of 'enjoyment',a kind of perverse 'self-whipping'. A person that truly LOVES themself does NOT put up with this!

I think it is classic co-dependency/domestic violence syndrome: Your oppressor has convinced you that you deserve to be abused. This is why women are attracted to and stay with men who beat them - they are convinced that they don't deserve any better treatment.

The WTS attracts (in general) people who:

are not good at abstract thinking - they like yes/no black/white answers
need for every question to have some answer (no matter how convoluted)
want a pecking order so they know where they stand at all times
rules - so they know when to feel good and when to feel bad

All this sets the scene for those in power positions (if they are so inclined) to rake the R & F over the coals and for the R & F to take it.

Add to that, the R&F feel that the DO/CO have some insider's track to Jehovah because they're more 'spiritual,' i.e., spend more time selling magazines....the R&F look forward to any shard of evidence that the CO& DO have Jehovah's holy spirit. Even when, for YEARS, nothing of import is shared with them, they somehow believe that any day now Jehovah will use the DO &CO as Apostle Paul, to perform miracles.

Lowden I wasn't trying to hijack honestly, I was just reflecting on why people would look forward so much to a visit that in the end, nets them zero return on investment.
