well , where is one of those dull ugly song books when you need it?

there is actually a song in it saying we must control our emotins, our body members(somethig like that) .I recall that song and think we were all zombies,

    we must

    we must

    control our lust

"When a child is born - no real joy because that means one more person to try to get through the persecution before the end comes."

One of the worst and most stupid sentences I've ever seen - having the nerve to print that I never felt joy when my children were born. Wow! What psychic High Priestess do we have here!

Wow, after reading that, I'm beginning to wonder if I grew up in a JW home. I grew up in a highly emotional environment. And, it wasn't a problem in my cong if we cried at funerals. We were also emotionally involved in the field work. We loved those dear, doomed worldly people and just had to wake them up at 9:00 in the morning to tell them so.

And I bet you got some very emotional people greeting you at their doors!

    That is so true!
I had problems to feel ANYTHING when I was a JW. My feelings were always the same: gray, boring, depression. Now I can feel things. Joy, laugh, sad, and so on. They are not always good feelings, but still I'm glad that I feel SOMETHING.

Yep we were a numb family; let's be cool, let's not get excited about anything. Grow up you're acting like a child... what a waste of all that fun we could have been having!

An Elder once took me aside and said: 'we'd like to see you being more serious, as we've noted you seem to laugh after the meetings when associating with people' !

I was a complete emotional wreck after coming out and I obviously share a lot with others here who have had to re build/learn, how to feel things again, going from being completely shut down and not feeling anything to having such high's and low's.

There's a lot of laughing in my congregation after the meetings, the place roars.

While they are told that JWs have more love amongst themselves than any other religion (and this therefore is proof of God's blessing), in reality, they are no different and probably less emotional than most people.

I think that works on a fear level as well. If JWs are the most loving friendly hospitable people on Earth, then by comparison everyone else must be waiting to kill you with sticks the second you set foot outside the hall.

What I find most painful is mandatory emotion, whether "high" or "low" -- the "joyful smiles" at JW assemblies just as the loud Hallelujahs in Pentecostal services, inasmuch as they are expected from everyone.

From my JW time (over 20 years ago) I can remember about every type of character -- warm, funny, enthusiastic, negative or dull. Only their expression is somehow limited in official WT settings. Also, the uniformity of the organisation leaves little room for cultural differences in such settings (such as you can see between a Lutheran service in Scandinavia and a Latino-American Pentecostal church).
