It is SAD that the catholic church sees this as a greater threat than the raping of children by priests.

The first poster said "it has been proven that Jesus has a bloodline"

I assume you mean a bloodline that includes children he fathered? I am not an expert in this area but wouldn't you have to have DNA from Jesus or his parents or siblings in order to prove this?

And secondly, of course he has a bloodline - all human beings have a bloodline we can trace even if we never have childen.

I personally don't believe there is any evidence that Jesus was married or had kids, the book is total fiction and is said to be fiction. I saw many shows on this last week and yes, Jesus did have a close relationship with Mary but so what? That does not mean it was sexual. As far as kissing - it was the custom to greet others in the faith with a "holy Kiss" - Paul mentions this in corinthians. Some bible scholars agree that they used to kiss on the mouth.

I know many women with male friends so close to them, they sometimes share a hotel room and sleep in the same bed and NO - they do not have sex. They think of each other as brother and sister. And when I was growing up (being Italian) it was always customary to kiss our friends hello on the mouth, male and female.

As far as Mary being the deciple Jesus loved more than the others, I always thought that was the Apostle John who was loved like this. I could be wrong - as a matter of fact I am going to look that up in the bible and see if I can find the scripture that says that. It is possible that it is Mary. But I know John was the one who used to lean on the Lord's bossom - Not Mary.

But Jesus was unique in his view of women. I recently wrote an article on this which Randy put on his website under womans issues - you can read it there. But if anyone would like to print and read it, pm me your email and I will send it to you.

Mattica, you beat me to it, and welcome to the board! Here's another link I thought was interesting, whether or not any of it is true I don't know, but it's interesting reading. http://essenes.net/subindex9.htm I know some only believe the bible is the word of God, but can we really be sure? I personally believe the bible has truth in, but I'm not convinced anymore it's the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Acadian

    pistoff,

    FYI

In last nights dateline, and out of all the busts of pedophiles and sexual predators, only one was a member of the clergy.

All the other men were in law enforcement and education!!!!

    Lovelylil,

The disciple whom Jesus loved was John. See John 19:26 and 20:2 and 21:7, 20. Consider this also. If Mary Magdalene was Jesus' wife, why did he not entrust her (as he did his mother) to John? There is no effort to hide Mary, the mother of Jesus or Mary, the wife of Clopas. Why would Jesus' wife merely be called Mary of Magdala in Scripture?

Something else to consider. It was not unknown for religious teachers of this time, including Jesus, to be celibate. Consider some of the teachers of the Essenes. Consider John the Baptist. Consider Paul.

    kenneson,

thank you for that information. I was sure it was John but have not had a chance to search in the scriputures that much today. I was going to look it up tomarrow but you beat me to it! Thanks.

What I find interesting with the "judas gospel" that is supposed to prove that Mary was Jesus wife is, I was watching a show on this the other night, that it merely says the Lord "used to kiss her on the ..........". This word is missing. People are saying mouth when it could be head, hand, cheek, etc. Also you made a good point about Jesus entrusting his mother to John but not his wife? That is such a great point that I never thought of.

The book DaVinci code is fiction and I can't understand why people think it is something more. And to build a whole belief system (mary and Jesus married and had kids) on no evidence at all to this, is truly amazing.

Also, It was common practice for ALL Christians back in Jesus day and immediately after to kiss each other in greeting, so the fact that Christ kissed Mary often does not mean they were married; (my church has the same custom and men and women kiss hello)

    1. Romans 16:16
Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ send greetings.
    2. 1 Corinthians 16:20
All the brothers here send you greetings. Greet one another with a holy kiss.
    3. 2 Corinthians 13:12
Greet one another with a holy kiss.
    4. 1 Thessalonians 5:26
Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.

Here's a good link I think you women should enjoy.

This discussion reminded me of John 2:1-10. A few things I have gathered about this "beggining of miracles". 1. Some scholars believe this may actually be Jesus's own wedding. Due to the matter that it is unknown who wrote John, it is assumed John the apostle did. Along with that we no longer have access to the Hebraic language used to write John, what we have is what was translated into Greek, by an unknown author. And just as is the case with most of this material of the 4 gospels, what is written has the possibility that it was altered by layman writers in order to uphold the divinity of Christ. Yet I still don't see the connection how it would affect Christ divinity if he got married as a flesh and blood.

Another point on this scripture is why did Mary tell make Jesus responsible for getting more wine, when it normaly was the responsibility of the groom to make available all party supplies. They fail to mention who made the wine to the ruler of the feast, if it was a gift the ruler would have inisted upon meeting the giver, and not to mention this would have been a great way to witness to a bigger audience rather than just the servants if the ruler would have known that Jesus did this. (side note, doesn't this sort of endorse alcohol abuse)?

Do you all remember the last temptation that Jesus had when he was on the cross, according to the book The Last Temptation of Christ?

    Mattica,

John 2:2 says Jesus was invited to this wedding. If he was the groom, would he need an invitation to his mother's house? It also mentions Jesus' mother as being invited there. Would she need an invitation to her own house? But notice nothing is said of Mary Magdalene's presence. Read verse 12. Are we to expect that Jesus and his bride accompanied the whole gang on their honeymoon?

I think Scripture is clear as to Jesus' last temptation. "My God, my God, why has thou forsaken me?" See Matt. 27:46
