b/c they took over a kh, the wts decided this would never happen again.
Back in the 80's and elders wife told me the wts was trying to basically get rid of the poor brothes (what God does not love me?). They want a new image. She said that it had become known to the wts that they were known as a religion that attracts the poor whites and blacks., an the uneducated, very uneducated. They wished to not associate themselves with ths image and so are trying to have really nice KH"S that will attract the middle class american and the educated. This would eliminate many of the bros that were associating at that time. I can tell you that our local elder bodies are made up by the white collar brothers, no windowwashers in the bunch. the new jws,the educated, white collar jw in a really nice side of town in a really upscale KH.

Well, really, after all the slamming of higher education as being the doorstep of Satan the Devil himself, what the hell did they expect? They brought this image on themselves by discouraging members from going to college/university in favor of peddling their stupid literature.

I don't understand why the WTBTS doesn't just PROVIDE (pay for) the property that Congregations NEED rather than provide (for themselves) property they just WANT out of greed (NY property investments). Where is the charity? They harp on about not making a profit out of your 'brother'........need I go on...?
The scandal is that the congregation has to pay for the cost of building or renovating the kingdom hall but the ownership goes to the WTS. In that way they have the upper hand and should a congregation decide to rebel the WTS can kick them out and keep the building.
This is strange since the local dubs put in the labour and pay for the loan on the cost of the land/builing materials.

Yes, but because JWs are discouraged from getting any education, I don't think they've worked it out yet. In fact, when I asked a JW who owned their Hall, they responded 'we all do'. So I said, 'if you ALL do, then you can demand your percentage, or sell to get it'.........

It's the mixed messages that get to me. Years ago the WTBTS encouraged people to sell what they had and devote what little time there was to the preaching work. But the Society itself, on one hand is still promoting Armaggedon as being uncomfortably close, while STILL making 10 year (and the rest) contracts..
Nelly - I bet they'd spend HOURS analysing the handwriting on those ''anonymous'' pledges.
That's a good point Midwich, why are they so money minded if the end is so very near, they obviously don't really believe deep down that it is. The charitable works issue also touches on the issue and their record in that sector is truly abysmal.
