My question is: What foole of a school overseer would give that talk to a 15 year old, anyway?

I know one cat that was an elder, who was assigned the second part after the announcements on the service meeting. The last annoucement that was made, before he was invited to give his part, was the notice to the rest of the cong and him that his wife was disfellowshipped.

I remember the last Sunday meeting I went to was a local needs talk about abusing prescription drugs.

This was a couple days after I had went to the elders and told them about my depression and anxiety. I told them about the medicines I was taking. I was really reaching out for help.

Suddenly, somewhere in my druged stupor, I realized this talk was about me. I never went back.

yeah, they are really insensitive about announcements etc.

but when I did the theocratic school we had the rule that we should not give that kind of talks (like about porn/masturbation etc) to young brothers.
I think the 'rule' came from the society, but I am not sure.

I was assigned a talk on circumcision 2 weeks before my wedding. I was 18...and I didn't know what it was. I declined the assignment...told 'em I was too busy with wedding stuff.

When I was 16 I was assigned that masterbation talk from the "Young People Ask".... I too was horrified. My Mom was dead and never discussed anything about sex with me. I told the sister that studied with us (since I was 4) that I was assigned the talk and she said: "what are they doing giving that talk to you? I will give it for you". Got out of that one quick!!!

Then when I was divorced....there was a talk about divorce. Guess who was assigned it? Me. I called up the school overseer and refused to do it and didn't go to the meeting that night. He said: "the divorce wasn't your fault". I said: "I know but I don't feel comfortable giving a talk". I thought he was very insensitive to my situation.

I rarely had to give talks as I was more on the fringes of the JW society but I can imagine how embarassing it was for a 15 year old to give a talk on sexual subjects, I hope you didn't have to say that masturbation causes homosexuality. In that case most men would be homosexual.

The problem with the WTS is that they have a policy of putting loads on their members but they do nothing to help them.

Personally I can't believe some of these talks. I can hardly imagine being in a 'church' setting and having some regular person giving some talk on masturbation! What about the little kids? I guess I was raised with some subjects not for mixed company. Privately for the parents to disucss their beliefs would be one thing but in front of a whole cong?! Someone here I think mentioned that a 14 year old gave a marriage talk. I'm sure he had great insight at his tender age.

However, these 'talks' do mangage to give me and my girlfriends some laughs when I tell them about it. I know, some will find that mean, but to outsiders you have no idea how assinine some of them sound.

IMO it is emotionally abusive to require a 15 year old to give a speech about masturbation.
It is not appropriate to treat children like that. IMO this talk assignment should rightly be called "sexualizing a child".
Imagine a teen in a session with a counselor or child protective service worker. Imagine the worker's reaction when the child explains his parents and elders required him to stand up in front of 100 adults to give a speech about sex. I can't imagine anyone who lives in reality thinking that even resembles normal.
