Why Do Inactive Ones Sometimes Go Back To The Organization?

I know two that DA'd about 15 years ago who returned.

None of their families are in the Watchtower cult.

    I still don't get it?

They couldn't have done any research.

    Thanks for asking the question.

Here are some of my reasons, but I will probably think of more later and will post as I remember, and it may look like I'm rambling, because I am.

I used to think "Is it me or is it the religion?". You go back to give it "one more chance".

You think "Where else can I go?" You have a need for spiritual things, and having "the truth" deeply implanted in your mind leaves you without any choice except to stay inactive or go back.

It is really difficult to be stuck between "the truth" and "the world". It can lead to thoughts of suicide.

    Guilt.

Even now, my wife keeps telling me "We have to go back to the meetings" and I tell her "Why? To get treated badly after the first 2 weeks? No one wants us there anyway."

Until I found J.W.D., I was just stuck.

I still am, in a certain way.

I still think "What if it is the truth?".

"What if this is the modern day type of ancient Israel, when the nation was basically corrupt, but Jehovah did approve of those in the nation that had not let themselves be corrupted, and those sincere ones just had to put up with it?".

I agree...families and the lack of research bring people back. Honestly, I can't see how anyone can go back once they learn about all of the hypocrisy. That hurts when you've believed something for you whole life.

I suppose there could be quite a few reasons really, but the most common one I encountered was so that they could have a normal relationship with their family members who are still jws.

I know some of my cousins still go to memorial, and DC's but I always wondered why, they are more wild than I ever was, drugs, sex, babies with different dad's and smoking, well I think the only reason is simply they are programmed to just do it, plus they don't want to be shunned by the rest of the family. Its silly they are older than me in their mid 30's they should just grow up, face what you really are and get on with their life.

If they went back, they never really left.

Yep, there's a big difference between 'not attending' to being an ex-dub.

Same with those who were kicked out for fornication and so on. Just because a person's Dfed doesn't make them an ex-Dub.

I have only known of one case of a guy going back. I had heard stories of others from the past, but nothing tangilbe except for the one case. In his circumstance he grew up in it and when he reached his teen years he drifted away. He only returned when all of his "worldly" friends went off and got lives and found himself alone and the only family he had to turn to was of course his JW family. Thus he went back and studied and got baptized and the whole nine yards. I left shortly after his return. He's probably an elder now, that congregation was so small and wanting for people that any young man was sure of a quick promotion. His JW parents were so proud of their prodigal son returning. I wonder how he feels now stuck out in the middle of no where working at a Thrifty mart

They go back because they want that old familiarity back. They want to feel appreciated by a group, and have some friends again.
