Re-reading some of your posts I can see the original thinking involved.

Might I suggest that you re-read posts several times before responding. In the future.

    Alan F.

I don't need praise. However, I prefer to be around people that don't refer to me as a piece of shit as you did. What kind of person would refer to another person as a piece of shit? Nazis, KKK, to name of few.

And where are those who would repudiate you for using that kind of terminology? Not one person here appears to disagree with your behavior enough to call you on it.

Do you think calling a person a piece of shit is going to help them if they DO have an inferiority complex? Maybe you want me to really feel inferior by agreeing with you that I'm just a piece of shit.

I hope the moderators don't take this thread down. It is a testimony to your hypocrisy and the lack of decency of the hundreds who have read this thread and have said nothing.

Do you really want to bite me in the ass after I apologize to Leolea? Does that make you feel good? You would have made an excellent Elder in a JW congregation.

    AlanF.

I did a google search on AlanF and the word "shit". Seems you have priors on your record.

    Proplog said:

"The insult of public praise is that it detracts from the intrinsic motivation and satisfaction of a mature person. Praise works somewhat on kids but adults resent the potential control that emerges from praise."

What complete nonsense; how does public praise detract from motivation? The point of the praise here is to recognize PAST accomplishments, not to spur someone on to something they have not yet realized!

To make the blanket statement that praise is a control mechanism ignores that praise can be wildly different in nature; could some be manipulative? Yes.
    Was this praise manipulative? No.

And why do you assume that just because someone gets praised on this forum, that the rest of us will bow down? It is just one person's opinion; it isn't etched in stone.

Alan F.'s remarks about inferiority complexes and your problem with YOUR inferiority complex were right on the mark. Your following comments make you out to be a bigger piece of shit than your original post on this thread.

Woa, woa, woa there! Ease up people... I respect Proplog's right to be completely wrong. Why can't you guys do the same?

I for one really enjoy the comments posted here by Leolaia, AlanF and other notables. Even those of us who use a lot of cut and paste stuff turns out to be good contributing material.

    Pistoff:

First of all I am not alone in this opinion. Those that agree with me are probably in the minority. As I suggested, a search on Google will expose you to arguments against awards and other public expression of praise. In most cases we're not talking about measureable things such as sports statistics. By the way I think those statistics are necessary to carry on the sports business which has more to do with business than sport. Halls of Fame whether for Athletes or Musicians are just ego trips.

Nothing prevents you from praising people in public. I personally feel it is a tasteless & vulgar exercise. And I say that without fear of being ridiculed for voicing my unpopular opinion. If a person wants to quietly & privately compliment someone that may be acceptable.

When I think of awards I think of Nobel Peace Prize/Yasser Arafat

There has been references to the old idea of "inferiority complex" . Extraverts tend to like pats on the back. Introverts don't. There are more Extraverts in the General Population than there are Introverts.
