Got to earn some money so I can go to college and get my PHD before I'm 90.

It would behoove you to diversify some of your scholastic expenditures towards a good therapist. Go seek one before you turn another year old, much less 90.

I took research methods in both college and university. I hated it. I'm not good at it. But I sure do admire those who do it well and I suspect they do it well because they like it.

But I know my talents and skill lie elsewhere.

Letting the researchers on the board know that I appreciate their work and the time and sometimes even the money to do what they do has no effect on my self-esteem.

What I find great is that here we can each do what we are good at instead of being forced to be what the WTS wanted us top be - good like dubbues who do as we are told.

I have to wonder how many great minds succombed to the WTS programming. Certainly a great many if this board is any indication. Thank goodness we free

I am not free of jealousy and envy. I really envy those who are rich because they inherited it. I envy those who have the financial means and other advantages to rebuild their lives. I envy those who got out of the organization while they were young and had the vigor to pursue their interests.

I appreciate your honesty here. Indeed there is no such thing as equality. And there are probably much worse situations than any of ours.

And I am sure there are plenty of "scholars" who have a daily struggle with Aspergers and other Autistic problems

I'm not sure how far this is an ad hominem, but in any case, shouldn't that moderate your "envy" and build up your appreciation for whatever "remarkable" people bring to the world, knowing that their everyday lives are not necessarily as easy as their visible "gifts"? Should there be only "normal" people around our world would be a much duller place.

If my arguments aren't sound and I can't defend them I can change them. Criticism helps a person grow.

Since your interested in growing, try positively critiquing others, by debating Leolaia or someone of like caliber, on the points and arguments being made in one of their posts. Enjoy that experience. I think they'd really enjoy it too.

Even if we all had access to the same construction materials and tools, there'd be some of us who could build better designed structures than others. Thats the reality. If mine (i.e. argument, train of though) didn't have very tight seams, wasn't sound, or was somehow lacking, I'd be a fool to diss those I could learn from. We have several incredibly well versed and thoughtful posters on JWD. Unlike other pseudo-scholars, she's intellectually honest.

If you're happy with your present contructs, then good for you. I want to fix my leaky roof and don't see the point of whining about others wanting to express their appreciation for fellow posters. Its not just an elite few who are made to feel appreciated. Others are mentioned for their empathy, insightful remarks, or wit. I'm glad I can have contact with all of them.

    Well, Well.
I don't mind at all saying that I like Leo and envy her that Ph.D.! I intend to do something towards seeking my own directly, though it sure won't be in religious studies. I don't see Proplog's problem with somebody saying they appreciate the presence of a credentialed scholar in our midst. The best I can figure is that his problem is something along what Freud said was the problem with women.
As has been pointed out before, there are scholars who post here, though not all of them have Ph.D.s by any means (Master's degree is a level of scholar, though not the top). And I appreciate the ones among them who like Leo don't carry a chip on their shoulders. Few of these ones specialise in religious studies, but all contribute in their own ways to our little community.
I respect Leo for what she has managed to achieve since leaving the bOrg. I, for one, am glad to see somebody of her caliber coming here and trying to be of help to those of us who are fresh out of the bOrg and trying to find our way instead of closing herself off in the academic community. That means alot to many folks around here and I see nothing wrong with a few of them voicing that appreciation. A well-adjusted personality would simply say "Gee, thanks" Proplog. Leo strikes me as one who would either say that or something much like it.
Proplog, you strike me as someone who has some issuse he needs to work through. Well, that is not at all unusual for anybody who has ridden the Rutherford Train! Get over it man! Don't envy Leo the praise she has earned. And if you want to go down the road she has and become a scholar, that road is by no means closed to you. I started my education late in life and probably with fewer resources than you! I've earned my Bachelor's and, God willing, will soon be on my way to my Master's. I my well be "90" when I get my Ph.D.. But you can believe that the sound of the words "Dr. Forscher" will be sweet music to my ears for whatever few years I get to hear them!
If you really want to do it, the means will find you.

proplog2, You don't need a PHD, you need to learn respect.

    Lawrence,

In my opinion, you hit the nail on the head.

    Respectfully,

I wanted to know more about the phrase "millions now living will never die" and how the WTS changed the meaning of that phrase over the years. Well here is Leo's reply

as can be seen, this is not simply cut and paste, but shows some true originality and depth of understanding.

This is just an example as other members of JWD are skilled in this art as well.

I have always enjoyed Leo's posts, as they are very thought provoking, well researched, and backed up with source materials. I think she deserves a lot of praise--and I'm not ashamed, nor feel guility, for acclaiming her publicly. Thanks Leo.

Having been away in the Australian bush for a week, it is a nice surprise to find your kind comments here. I personally don't think of myself in the terms expressed in the thread title, and I should note that my Ph.D. is not in biblical studies per se but in historical linguistics (which does bisect biblical studies in some ways). I understand proplog's initial impulse to some extent, for I tend to dislike the popularity contest threads (and I recognize that my threads are usually heavy with supporting material and can often be hard reads) but I do regard "thank you" threads in the kind light that they are offered, in appreciation for a poster's hard work.

To correct some of proglog's statements, my posts are rarely cut-n-paste. True, I do present quotes from primary sources as supporting evidence, but I usually write them for many hours at a time afresh.
