"Oh, so if the U.S. government doesn't catch everyone here raising and sending money to terrorists in Northern Ireland, then our government is culpable? OK. If that's how you feel about it."

The point is they didn't try.

What number of poeple have to die before it becomes war? 3500
have died in the British isles maybe 5000 in New york why does America feel it has to go to war , a war which could affect the rest of the world.
Many more die of starvation, poverty and crime why so little action taken?
It is worse to die of stavation or in a bomb attack?

I think you might want to call the FBI and ask them if they turn the other way when IRA people in the U.S. are trying to send aid to the IRA. I think you will find that it's still against the law and they have made arrests on this in the past.

Two other factors

I think there are two other factors that have to be considered. Regarding the Haves and the Have Nots, there are situations where no amount of charity will make a difference. There are cases in Africa, for example, where generous aid never got to the people. The government policy was to starve out certain factions. With such a ruthless policy in place, there is nothing that can be done, short of invading the country.

Regarding the terrorists, their hate goes beyond any wrong they we have coommitted. Why? Because as a member of the hate fringe of their religion, they consider us to be of Satan, and any nonMuslims in their region are viewed as a dispoiling of their sacred countries. No amount of negotiation will change that. In today's world of commerce it simply not possible for the rest of the world to meet such an impossible demand.

Hi Larc: You have spoken wisely. My sister went to Ethiopia when there was a call for medical helpers. She told me of food, clothing, and medicine rotting on the docks or raided by military factions that never benefited the people it was intended.

And likewise, the radical, fanatical hate by some will never be quenched by charity or even fair negotiations. These see things in only two extremes of balck and white - and as long as they harbor these feelings - they will never be able to come to terms with us.

MY FELLOW BRITONS:

Gentlemen this is NOT THE RIGHT TIME to be having sport with the Yanks.

Leave them be. We could be have our boys fighting alongside them very soon, who can shout loudest won't make bugger all difference then.

And their steak tastes better than ours.

Englishman.

PS. I thought that intro was quite presidential, what?

As others have pointed out, the US sends aid to various countries and then is blamed when the governments of those countries refuse to distribute the supplies to their own people.

Never have I heard an outcry against the governments that allow their own people to suffer. Rather, there are complaints that "the US didn't do this" or "the US did that".

Saddam Hussein set his own people up in vulnerable positions to be slaughtered. Yet, does anyone blame HIM for their deaths? No....once again, it's the fault of the US.

Rulers in country after country hijack aid that is meant for their people and use it for themselves and their cronies. Then, the US is castigated because other countries live in poverty.

And yet, US medical teams continue to fan out across the globe, and US supplies are sent to any country that needs them.

I don't want to get into this 'yankee bashing' thing here. I like the Americans..really do. But I dont buy this 'greatest nation under God' shit...sorry!
Rightly or wrongly, the U.S is hated for reasons in the middle east. Two issues that seem to keep cropping up are Iraq and the Palestinian issue. I dont buy the idea that US went into Kuwait and were the goodies that saved the world. I dont buy the idea that Israel are the goodies either. The more i look into it, the more things seem to become very morally ambiguous.

If your looking to understand the otherside i think you can do no better than read Noam Chomsky who has recently commented on the disaster. This site also cntains some interesting stuff: http://www.zmag.org/

Here is a snippet of what Chomsky has said recently:

'...As to how to react, we have a choice. We can express justified horror; we can seek to understand what may have led to the crimes, which means making an effort to enter the minds of the likely perpetrators. If we choose the latter course, we can do no better, I think, than to listen to the words of Robert Fisk, whose direct knowledge and insight into affairs of the region is unmatched after many years of distinguished reporting. Describing "The wickedness and awesome cruelty of a crushed and humiliated people," he writes that "this is not the war of democracy versus terror that the world will be asked to believe in the coming days. It is also about American missiles smashing into Palestinian homes and US helicopters firing missiles into a Lebanese ambulance in 1996 and American shells crashing into a village called Qana and about a Lebanese militia paid and uniformed by America's Israeli ally hacking and raping and murdering their way through refugee camps." And much more. Again, we have a choice: we may try to understand, or refuse to do so, contributing to the likelihood that much worse lies ahead.'

My aim was to enlighten those who were mystified as to why anyone would have anger for americans. Unfortunately, i gave the impression of blaming the american people, which i did not mean to do. I wanted to give the opportunity to those who were able, to go through a door and see the other side. For those who are not mystified and already know all of it or who don't want to look at the other side... ok, fine, don't. No offence was meant or will be taken.
