What more can they possibly take from her?

Some of you may remember my Mom was diagnosed with a rare disease that shrinks the brain. (Corticobasildegeneration) How I remember that is beyond me! She is only 67.

Anyway, since she was diagnosed, they started out by taking her licence away about 3 years ago. Then she moved into a semi assistant living home. (still was her own place though) Now, the doctor deemed her incompetent. Fine, I can see that! She is going down hill fast.

So, I had to move her two weeks ago into a place like a nursing home. That was tough, for the both of us. Alot of tears. She had to give up her "home", and her two babies! She has had two cats for 12 years she loves dearly!

The place she is in now is very nice, and she is use to it. They treat her good, take her outside to smoke and help her light her cigs. Mix her a drink when she wants one!

Well, I just got a call from the manager of that place. She said this is the first time ever, in the 10 years she worked there, that "this" happened. They have to have approval from all the residence doctors, to serve them alcohol. She got a letter from my moms doctor saying that due to my moms condition, she will not condone any alcohol consumption by my mom! WTF? She is terminal! So what if she wants to have a damn drink! She has lost her licence, her house, her pets, and her dignity at such a young age! She lives with people who are old enough to be her parents! I say let her die happy!

The manager and staff all agree with me, but by law they cant serve her. I told her, well, if I have to pick her up everyday and bring her her for a drink, I will! She laughed and said, you dont have to take her out, what you serve her in her room is your own business, we dont see a thing! We know she has a bottle in her room, but we didnt see it lmao!

I'd never heard of this disease (unsurprisingly). I'm sorry to hear about this though.

Yeah, get your mom what she wants. Bastard doctor...

Gee, she should be allowed to have a little drink now and then. It's even good for the health to have one little drink drunk

Maybe you cold bribe the manager?

You know it. She has two of them. The one who sent the letter is a nurse practitioner. She also has her neurologist. I will talk to both.

Well, I know her well, and also her daughter who works there. I would hate for them to get in trouble over one spilled mixed drink lol

Why don't you move her in with you and then you can treat her however you see fit?

How sad. I lost my Mom at the age of 67, so this post resonated with me big time.

Is it possible to find another doctor that will take a differing stance on the matter, given the situation? Otherwise I suppose you are in a fairly good situation that the management will just ignore what you bring in for her. At least that.

The heck with that! I will put it in her closet under something. That way its there. They have been mixing her drinks for two weeks now . Im sure they will figure out what Im up to when I go down to the kitchen for that glass of ice! (been there dont that)

Believe me, I would if I could. We have 4 kids here, and nowhere to put her. Plus, the worse she gets, its really hard for me to emotionally deal with it. Last week I had to feed her, cause her hands dont work right sometimes. It about killed me! I had my daughter take over, while I scrammed upstairs to have a good cry!
