I have back pain. My lower back. I ice it and take a pain killer. Sometimes I go to the chiropractor. Sometimes rest helps. Back pain is no fun.
I've had lower back trouble for the last 28 years, since I was 20. Damn disks.
I ice it, take painkillers, and give it rest. I lie down with my legs elevated at the knees. If I'm lying on my side I use a pillow between my knees. I never keep a wallet in my back pocket, as that affects seating posture.
I've noticed that exercise decreases the frequency of episodes. A good doctor or chiropractor should give you some good back exercises.

A really good bed is important too. You spend loads of time in a bed so splash out on a good one.
No. I don't have a back issue just a pain in the arse. Doc called it a "Gumbpain".
For real though, my daughter has degenerative disc disease. She is only 31. She's already lost about 2" in her height. Also, my husband hurt his back when he was 21. He's had several procedures done through the years. Had herniated discs.
What helped him were the injections of nerve block given by an anesthesiologist. But his situation is more severe that usual pains in the back that heal w/rest. For years I would massage his lower back to keep the muscles from spasming.
What FinallyFree said about his sleeping methods is what my daughter does. Husband can never sleep on his stomach. Or stay in bed for long. Exercise - keep moving helps the most.
One kooky Dr. (he was a very eccentric specialist who performed a procedure on my husband) said that we have back pain because we should never have evolved upright; we should've stayed on all fours like the animals. BUT animals also have spinal problems.

I did for a while. As an outside sales guy I carried a heavy bag. It knocked me outta whack. My regular Dr. couldn't help, suggested rest and stretching. My chiropractor, on the other hand, ROCKED! She had me whipped into shape in about 30 minutes. One side of my lower back was over-compensating for the other due to the heavy bag.
I did the stretches and upgraded to a back pack. Did wonders. Now I'm pain free 99% of the time. If it starts to feel tight I go back in to the Chiro. Don't lose hope. ...and yes, back pain sucks it.
oh yeah and I was also carryin' way too much weight on the mid-section. Getting rid of that helped a lot too.
I've known several people with serious back issues. I consider myself extremely lucky to have absolutely no back problems.

I've been having back problems for years. The past 2.5 being the worst. Regular exercise (and mild muscle relaxers) has done wonders.
I have degenerative disc disease....very painful!!! I get spinal epidurals as needed and take pain meds as needed! I walk daily but have to rest my back a lot! Sitting for long periods of time is not good!!! I really don't know what caused my condition as I started working out when I was 18 yrs old, stayed very active, kept a strict diet (was always slim and trim!) took my vitamins, etc. Of course, I was a very active kid and when I was growing up...fell out of trees and off horses, but never broke anything. Now I wonder though, if I could have hurt my back and just not realized it???

I used to have really bad upper back and neck problems. It was so bad I was wearing a cervical collar for a few months. I couldn't sit at he call and was allowed to stand at the back of the hall.
Then I got divorced and the pain in the neck disappeared. Really!!! I haven't had it since
One thing I have done also did two things. First I got a water bed. That made a huge difference. Then a few years ago I bought a water pillow. Awesome. I hate traveling anywhere without my pillow.
I no longer have the water bed but it helped my back so much. Now the water pillow is enough without the waterbed to prevent any of those cricks in the neck you get some nights
