This is such a great idea! I might put it into practice myself with my family who are still WAITING for the END which of course is close at hand, near at hand, at the threshold, right around the corner! :::gagging:::: where is Chicken Little when you need him!

Not cruel at all just a really great idea...market it...create 'stream of time' post cards...we can all contribute ideas, visuals....one could be a line of the WTS Presidents lined up like dominos each one that has died shown fallen and the line going through them being the 'stream of time line' starting from the date they first started this 'close at hand' countdown. It could end with the statement from Jesus " But as these things start to occur, raise yourselves erect and lift YOUR heads up, because YOUR deliverance is getting near." [Luke 21:28] Showing the contrast 'in the stream of time' between standing up and being attentive and falling down in death...which somehow nullifies how 'close at hand' the 'end' was/is! I know they caught my attention in 1970 with the 'right around the corner' slogan...thing is...by now we've all been around a FEW corners and it still eludes us.They do not want to fall into the bunch that are saying 'where is this promised presence of his'? :::wink::::

I dunno, call me cruel. But I'd send him an annual "stream of time" postcard once a year, hopefully from some tropical locale. Tell him you haven't regretted your decision yet. I'm thinking blondie is right, that the society is surreptitiously whipping the congregation in to another end-time frenzy. How long can it last? One year, two?

It constantly surprises me that, faced with situations like yours Jeff, the dub wiill resort to the "time is short" mantra. When I've reminded them that thier own (changed) doctrine of the "generation" teaches that thm not to think that way, they try to "have it both ways" with both believing in the changed doctrine, yet somehow holding to the former.

    G'day Jeff:

Thx for sharing this. Y'know I'm really curious as to what's in your friend's mind when he wrote this:

I seelove from the Faithful slaveand it's governing body, while the tone of your letter and the action you have said you will take are full of hatred. That, my friend, is the spirit of the world, not that of my Faithful Friend and God, Jehovah.

I'm curious because I wonder how he SAW the love of the F&DS? Especially since no dub can ever 'see' the F&DS. it seems a rather strange comment. I realise that he's linked F&DS with "its governing body" and I suspect therein lies the answer to the question - he actually believes what the GB proudly proclaim about themselves.

    Still, I'm curious.

    Hi Ozzie -

Good point. I happen to know that this 'brother' has been less than fairly treated over the years - but, like most, during those periods he was 'being refined by Jehovah'. During periods in which he was an elder, giving parts, or noticed in some other respect, he was 'blessed by Jehovah'. They always have their cake and eat it too, don't they?

The really sad part is, that the letters I wrote to him, were not angry letters, or hateful. They espoused tremendous hope as a follower of Christ. Yet the jist of his letter was that I was 'evil' had allowed 'room for the devil', etc. Just like on the doors - they have been well trained to turn a deaf ear to words that contradict Jehovah [alias WTS].

G'day to ya, Ozzie, and hope all is well with you and the Mrs. Welcome back.

    Jeff

Yep, and I really believe this is something worth pursuing with your friend or any other dub if they're speaking with you, i.e. that they believe two conflicting teachings at the same time. Hence, my comment above about the "generation" teaching. Even though I might actually agree with their revised "understanding™", still for so long they believed the opposite and still they slyly invoke the last days/1914/"time is short" whenever they face an uncomfortable position. They can't have it both ways and expect to be taken seripously, nor to have any influence over a DAd former dub.

Pursue it with them is my advice.

Isn't there a scripture that says no one can see the F&DS and live? Jeff, you should send the response you did here back to him. You won't get a response, but it would be a good closure for you.

    (((Jeff)))

I know this hurts. I have much of the same going on right now with family/friends. But I'm with you, don't waste the stamp.

Maybe I am different. But I see anger and fear In your dear friend. Only an angry person would use such words and the fear based on the tiny little thought that maybe you and not the dear friend are correct.

All of this lurking in his mind just behind the one way door to his part of brain that is trying to reason while overwhelmed with the usual jw confusion.

I hope the wbts hurts him deeply. Maybe this will wake him up.
